With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom being the final DCEU movie, fans have also speculated that it is the final hurrah of Jason Momoa as Aquaman.

There have been rumors for the past several months that the actor won't be returning to the role in the DCU and will be recast as Lobo. Although, DC Studios has not confirmed the actor's potential new role in the reboot.

Momoa has also cast doubt on his return as Aquaman in a recent interview, and with the sequel's low box office tracking, it is getting more likely that the new film is his final tenure in the role.

Now, the co-chairman of DC Studios has addressed the actor's potential future in the DCU following the release of the sequel.

In an interview with The Independent, DC Studios co-chairman and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom producer Peter Safran addressed the future of Jason Momoa as Aquaman.

He teased that the sequel is likely the actor's "last stand" in the role, but he also hopes that fans will support the potential end of his journey as the hero.

"We’ll see what happens, but I really hope people will come and support his potentially last stand as Aquaman," he said.

"When I think of Jason in this role, he is the definitive Aquaman. He’s redefined it. It’s been an 11 or 12 year journey for him - a lot of the audience doesn’t realise that he was cast so long ago. It’s kind of redefined him. When he took this role he was known as Khal Drogo, and now he’s really Aquaman."

Safran continued, "What I hope is that people will really be here to support him on this journey. If it’s the end of the journey, fine. If it goes on, that’s also fine, but I think it has meant so much to him. The way [director] James [Wan] crafted this second film, it feels like a very complete story when you watch the two films together."

The DC Studios co-chairman concluded by assuring that the actor will always have a place in the DC franchise.

"We’ll see what happens with him beyond it. I know that Jason will always have a home at DC, and at Warner Bros. In fact, his next movie is Minecraft," he said.

They are still playing coy about Momoa's future as Aquaman since they didn't definitively say that the new film is the actor's last appearance in the role.

However, given that Safran mentioned that it is potentially his "last stand," it is also more likely than ever that he won't be returning, and James Gunn already confirmed the returning DCEU actors, which do not include Momoa.

We might be able to find out soon enough what Momoa's future will be in DC, but it's not surprising at this point if we hear that he won't be returning and he'll get recast instead as Lobo, which is what the rumors have been indicating.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now showing in theaters everywhere.
