Jason Momoa is making a splash again as Aquaman in the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It will also serve as the final DCEU movie before the upcoming DCU reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

There have been assumptions from fans that it will be the actor's last hurrah as the DC hero since there have been rumors that he will be playing Lobo in the DCU and the Justice League heroes in the DCEU are going to be recast with different actors.

So far, no official announcement has been made regarding Momoa's potential future in the DCU after his reign as Aquaman, but fans would definitely love to see more of him in the DC franchise whether it's the hero or not.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight while promoting the sequel in London, Momoa addressed his future as Aquaman after the release of the sequel.

While he would love to continue playing the DC hero, the actor casts doubt on his future in the role due to the upcoming DCU reboot.

"I don’t necessarily want it to be the end... [but] I don’t think it's really, like, a choice," Momoa said as he explained that Gunn and Safran want "to start their own new thing up."

"The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there's a possibility. But right now, I’m like, 'It's not looking too good.'"

It's an understandable comment from the actor, especially since there have been rumors that he will be taking the role of Lobo in the DCU, and playing the new character certainly shoots down any possibility of him continuing as Aquaman.

DC fans also know that the upcoming sequel is going to be the final installment in the DCEU so most of them are already casting doubt as well that Momoa will return as Aquaman and presumed that the new film will be his last tenure in the role.

For now, let's wait for any potential announcements surrounding Momoa's future in the DCU sometime after the film's release. At this point, it's not surprising anymore if we'll hear that the sequel is indeed the last time that he is playing the role.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for release in theaters this December 22.
