With the new DCU franchise under James Gunn and Peter Safran about to begin next year with the release of Creature Commandos, fans have been curious about whether certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the reboot.

Based on the projects that they announced so far, we can guarantee that some of the actors from the DCEU are expected to reprise their roles in the DCU, particularly those who starred in the Gunn-directed projects.

However, it is causing some confusion amongst fans as there are assumptions that they will recast all the roles in order to restart the DC franchise from scratch and establish it as a brand-new franchise that has no leftovers from the past.

Now, the co-chairman of DC Studios has finally clarified which DCEU actors are confirmed to be part of the new DCU.

In one of his recent posts on Threads, Gunn revealed which actors from the DCEU will continue their roles in the DCU in response to a fan question that asked him about Blue Beetle's placement in the new franchise.

He confirmed that Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), John Cena (Peacemaker), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) are going to be part of the DCU and reprise their respective roles from the previous iteration.

While we already know from past comments and statements that the aforementioned actors are expected to continue in the DCU, it is still great to hear this confirmation as we finally have the assurance that they are returning to reprise their roles.

Gunn also revealed in another post that none of the DCEU projects are part of the official DCU canon which means that those three actors will come into the reboot as a new version of their respective characters.

It also posed the question of whether we will hear more actors from the DCEU continue their roles in the DCU or they'll also get recast just like what happened with Superman when David Corenswet was tapped to take over the role in the reboot.

We will definitely hear more updates about the DCU casting in the coming weeks or months as the industry is starting to ramp up again thanks to the recent conclusion of the writers' strike and the potential end of the actors' strike very soon.

The first DCU film Superman: Legacy is slated for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
