Recently, it was reported that Steven Yeun has exited the MCU movie Thunderbolts. He was reportedly supposed to play Sentry, a character that is set to have a bigger presence in the future of the MCU.

Scheduling conflict related to the strike delays was cited as the reason behind the Oscar nominee's departure from the project. No new actor has been tapped yet to take over the role.

Some fans were disappointed by the actor's exit from the MCU project as they believed that he was a great choice for the role. They also hope that he'll get another opportunity to join the franchise again in the future for a different role and project.

Now, for the first time since his exit was reported, the actor has finally addressed his departure from the MCU project.

Speaking with Variety, Yeun opened up about his recent departure from Thunderbolts and confirmed that a scheduling conflict related to the actor's strike last year is the reason behind his exit.

"I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it. But Jake [Schreier, the director], I know, is going to do an incredible job. I wanna do a Marvel movie," he said.

The actor also shared that he wrote a lot of drafts in his email to Marvel to inform them about his exit from the project.

He added, "It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out."

When asked whether he is eyeing another Marvel movie to potentially join in the future, Yeun didn't give a straight answer as he believed that it is not yet the right time to consider it.

"I think it’s too early to say that. I probably pissed off too many people leaving, so I’m just gonna say, ‘Thank you for having me,'" he said.

"I have some ideas. But I heard if you put it out there, you’ll never get it, so I’ll keep it close to my chest."

With multiple delays in its production start, it was inevitable that a cast member who signed on before the strikes might back out of the project and it is unfortunate for some fans who were initially on board with Yeun's casting as they will no longer get to see him suit up as Sentry.

Based on Yeun's comments, it looks like he is still open to joining the MCU again in the future if an opportunity presents itself. Now, we can look forward to hearing the news on who they'll cast to replace the actor in the role.

Thunderbolts is slated for release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
