One of the MCU productions that was affected by the Hollywood strikes last year is Thunderbolts, the upcoming team-up film that will feature fan-favorite antiheroes and villains from past MCU movies and TV shows.

While casting was made for the project earlier last year, it was eventually affected by the dual actors and writers' strikes that resulted in multiple production and release date delays. It is now set to begin filming this coming spring.

Now, as a result of the multiple strike delays, the film has lost one of its cast members who was supposed to play a key MCU character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Yeun has exited from Thunderbolts. He was reportedly supposed to play Sentry, a character that is slated to have a bigger presence in the future of the MCU.

Scheduling conflict was cited as the reason behind his departure following its multiple filming delays as a result of the Hollywood strikes.

This would have marked the Oscar-nominated actor's MCU debut. Invincible creator Robert Kirkman revealed a few months ago that he had already participated in a costume fitting for the role of Sentry.

Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, and Ayo Edebiri are still attached to be part of the film.

It is disappointing news for some fans who have been looking forward to seeing Yeun suit up as Sentry and join the MCU. However, with the multiple delays, casting exits such as this are inevitable and it won't be surprising if we'll hear more departures in the coming weeks.

The film is now set to finally begin production this coming spring and, hopefully, it won't experience another delay or more casting exits.

Now, we can look forward to hearing which new actor they will tap to play Sentry in the film, and, whoever they cast to take over the role, there is no doubt that he has big shoes to fill considering how beloved the character is to Marvel fans.

Thunderbolts is slated for release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
