While many anime shows might take years before releasing a second season, Spy x Family fans will be happy to know that Season 2 and the upcoming movie are expected to release in Fall 2023.
This news comes courtesy of Wit Studio, one of the animation studios behind 2022’s mega-hit anime.
Representatives from the studio mentioned this release window target during the recent 2023 Taipei Animation Festival.
Spy x Family Movie Announcement
At Jump Festa 2023, two Spy x Family projects were announced. While the Season 2 reveal was expected given how big of a hit the first season was, many were surprised that a movie is also in the works.
As the film is still in the works, there was no trailer or screenshots released during the event.
However, the teaser visual for the movie was shared, and it features Loid, Yor, Anya, and Bond riding a red turboprop plane.
Unlike the TV anime which closely adapts the manga source material (albeit with anime-original additions), the upcoming movie will feature an original story.
This is an unexpected move, especially as it is unlike the previous big anime movies such as Mugen Train or Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which were adaptations of existing manga arcs.
The story being original might also mean it’s not canon. Regardless, fans are still excited about the movie because the story is being written by none other than Spy x Family creator Tatsuya Endo.

Spy x Family Season 2 Release Date
As for Season 2, it is confirmed to be a continuation of the first season, and it will adapt the fan-favorite Great Cruise Adventure arc.
This was confirmed in a preview video for the upcoming season that was released recently.
Many fans consider this upcoming arc to be one of the best as it finally gives Yor a chance to shine.
After all, this arc features Yor on a mission instead of Loid.
Wit Studio animators revealed in a recent interview with Muse (the show’s distribution rights holder in the region) that the two projects are targeted to release in Fall 2023.
Given this, fans may expect to see Spy x Family Season 2 premiere in October 2023 at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Spy x Family film’s release might also coincide with the second season’s premiere later this year.
