Makoto Is a Rejected Hero in Tsukimichi

In a world where everything seems normal and ordinary, Makoto Mitsumi learns that his parents are actually from another world when Tsukuyomi, the god who rules over the moon, suddenly summons him.

According to Tsukuyomi, Makoto needs to go to another world to fulfill the contract that his parents had with a certain goddess in the past.

His parents swore to offer what is most precious to them to the goddess in exchange for sending them to Japan, so before Tsukuyomi can summon one of Makoto’s beautiful sisters, he agrees to the contract.

However, the goddess is unhappy with Makoto's mediocre appearance. She doesn't like Makoto's looks, so she sends him away with the ability to understand what demons, monsters, and other non-human races say, but without her official blessing.

As this happens, the goddess abducts two more earthlings to act as heroes in her world. She gave them her blessing and even made certain that they arrived safely at some human castles, except Makoto, who landed on a wasteland.

Thankfully, Tsukuyomi arrives before Makoto and bestows his benediction. He also informs Makoto that he is naturally strong in the goddess' domain now that his earthly burdens have been lifted.

Makoto Misumi has yet to return home to Japan in Tsukimichi as of this writing. The series is still ongoing, but so far, the story has shown Makoto potential options to return to his real world.

In episode 21, Luto (Root in some translations) reveals a new route for Makoto to get home. He's hinting at Makoto's dormant ability to travel from one dimension to another if only he could awaken it.

While Luto did not explicitly state that Makoto may return, Tomoe believed that her master could do so given his skills at this stage in the story. If this is the case, Makoto's life will be extremely convenient, as he will be able to travel between his origin world and the Goddess' world.

Fans are also speculating about a recall ritual that would send Makoto back to Japan as a sort of isolation, as detailed in chapter 208 of the light novel series.

Meanwhile, it's feasible that Makoto can seek the help of other gods to find a method to return to Japan along with Mio and Tomoe in the form of a contract, but for now, nothing has been confirmed.
