Tsukimichi Is Also Known as Journey in an Alternate World Guided by the Moon
Before the anime and manga adaptations existed, Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy, also known as Journey in an Alternate World Guided by the Moon, had a Japanese light novel series.
Kei Azumi writes the light novel, while Mitsuaki Matsumoto works on the illustrations.
Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy, or simply Tsukimichi, is a fantasy, adventure, and isekai series that centers around an ordinary high school student, Makoto Mitsumi, who discovers that his parents have a contract with a goddess from the isekai world.
Makoto goes to the isekai world but the goddess abandons him in the process.
The goddess is disappointed with Makoto’s looks, so she secretly kidnapped two more Earth dwellers to act as heroes in the fantasy world.
Thankfully, the Moon God of Earth, Tsukuyomi, came to Makoto’s rescue and bestowed his blessing on him.
Makoto then began his new life in the fantasy world, all the while finding ways to go back to his original world.
He encounters different kinds of monsters, creatures, and humans in his new life as a powerful merchant and a skilled teacher.
Is the Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Light Novel Over?
The Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy light novel is not yet over and is still ongoing at the time of writing.
The light novel has released 19 volumes since 2013, and there’s no sign that it will end anytime soon.
Kei Azumi and Mitsuaki Matsumoto began working on the Tsukimichi light novel back in 2012. It was published on the novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro, like most light novel series in existence.
The Japanese publishing company, AlphaPolis, then acquired the series after it moved to the website in 2016.
Hanashi Media, on the other hand, holds the license for the light novel’s English distribution.
The first volume of the Tsukimichi light novel was released way back in May 2013, while volume 19 was released on December 31, 2023.
