Tomoe's Absurd Strength Explained
In the world of Tsukimichi prior to Makoto's arrival, no being had ever been able to defeat Tomoe, hence the name 'Invincible'.
As with the Shen of Chinese folklore, most of Tomoe's abilities lie in her ability to manipulate her opponents and the environment. She can read minds, create illusions for opponents and even fabricate new worlds, such as the demi-plane where Makoto builds his new civilisation.
Don't let Tomoe's passive abilities fool you, however; she's also incredibly adept at combat, either as a giant floating dragon or in her physical form. Besides her encounter with Makoto, she is still yet to lose in combat.
How Strong is Tomoe Compared to Mio?
Mio and Tomoe can seem like two sides of the same coin at times, and their fighting abilities are similarly well-matched.
Both Tomoe and Mio had previously been referred to as 'natural disasters', supernatural beings that nobody could hope to control. While their backgrounds are different – Tomoe is a mythical spirit while Mio is a unique, otherworldly curse – they've both arrived at the same point.
In Tsukimichi episode 2, when an untamed Mio invades the demi-plane, Tomoe explains that they had fought before but not to a conclusion. When challenged by Makoto, Tomoe explains that she managed to wound the spider but didn't pursue it when it ran away.
This is obviously a one-sided account but gives you an idea of how evenly matched Makoto's companions likely were previously.
How Does Tomoe's Strength Compare to Makoto & Other Tsukimichi Characters?
As far as the wide world of Tsukimichi goes, Tomoe is absurdly strong. Unfortunately for her (or perhaps fortunately, depending on how you look at it), Makoto is even more ridiculous.
Makoto is one of the strongest beings in Tsukimichi. By suppressing his aura, he often doesn't raise many alarm bells, but in reality, his strength is likely beyond that of the Goddess who banished him.
Later on in the Tsukimichi light and web novels, we are introduced to more characters that can even surpass Makoto and the Goddess. One of these is Root, the only other dragon that is superior to Tomoe.
There are also other deities later on in Tsukimichi that have abilities surpassing those of Makoto and the Goddess.
