The finale of True Detective: Night Country spotlights Detective Liz Danvers and her Trooper Evangeline Navarro finding the missing scientist, Clark.

Thanks to their discovery, Clark confesses it was he and the other scientists who had killed Annie K., all because she had uncovered the truth that their lab intentionally poisoned the lands of the indigenous community for the sake of science.

As it turned out, the mysterious deaths of the scientists didn't come from the "supernatural." The Iñupiat community decided to take matters into their own hands by "letting Mother Nature decide" their fates.

In this case, the scientists froze to death, as though nature had taken their revenge for polluting the lands.

However, one question remains to be resolved: Did Navarro kill herself in the season finale of True Detective?

The last time we saw her, she was reaching and walking out of the icy Alaskan caves to her sister Julia calling out to her. But where did she go? Fans have their theories.

So, what gives? Did Evangeline Navarro really die in the finale? Well, it's a lot more complicated than a yes or no answer.

"It could be Navarro goes on a walkabout, like they do in Australia, and then comes back in peace," the True Detective showrunner said on USA Today. "Or she walks out in peace, not in torment, to join the women she knows on the other side."

Navarro's death? Well, it is possible that since Navarro was "drawn in" to the voices, she did somehow act upon what she believed was her fate and that is to rejoin her family beyond Ennis.

Kali Reis, however, had a different take on Trooper Navarro's fate as she revealed on Bustle, in which she details that the ending is open to interpretation for the fans.

At one point, Kali confirmed that her seeming death was in response to following her sister and mother's footsteps: "[After Julia passed away], Evangeline had to be practical and take care of her sister."

Considering this had always been foreshadowed since Anders Lund told her that her mother "woke up", Navarro walking into the light was to symbolically join her family between the physical and spiritual worlds.
