Nickelodeon's original animated series is finally bearing fruit as it releases a proper live-action adaptation this February. With that in mind, what is the age rating for Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender? Let's find out.

What is Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender Age Rating?

Closing in on the release date for Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix, fans wonder if the live-action adaptation of the hit animated series will be safe for kids to watch.

Considering that the live-action version has changed a couple of elements of the story, it is possible that this won't have the same age rating as the original animated show did, which was TV-Y7 (safe for kids aged 7 years old and above).

Firstly, check out the official synopsis for Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender below:

Avatar: The Last Airbender follows Aang, the young Avatar, as he learns to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) to restore balance to a world threatened by the terrifying Fire Nation.

Although the live-action adaptation still follows the same synopsis, fans can't help but express their disappointment on X (formerly Twitter).

As it turns out, the new show will be rated TV-14, as showrunner Albert Kim said, "It couldn't just be for kids."

This is the same rating as Netflix's Stranger Things, Wednesday, as well as Ginny & Georgia due to the involved violence and other mature content.

It's one thing to embed a few changes to the original storyline that would make it better in live-action.

However, fans are not pleased to find out that the showrunner intentionally wanted to "attract Game of Thrones fans" for the show.

Calling the new Avatar: The Last Airbender show "a remix, not a cover", the showrunner Kim told IGN, "We had to make it a serialized Netflix drama. It had to feel grounded and mature and adult in that way, too."

This did not sit right with fans, especially since the animated series was able to incorporate mature themes without changing the landscape of the show to only cater to adults.

It remains to be seen just how violent and extreme the Netflix show will be compared to its counterpart, however, live adaptations do tend to lean more on realistic aspects that can be disturbing to younger viewers. Keep that in mind.

Meanwhile, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series starts streaming on Netflix on February 22.
