DC Fans Are Convinced James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Will Be Sensational Because of One Obvious Reason

Given the enthusiastic reviews of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it has proven again that James Gunn knows how to do his job.

Now that he’s the co-head of DC Studios, his stellar MCU output is expected to extend to the DCU, with Superman: Legacy being one of his most anticipated projects.

As the fans were delighted over the third installment of the Guardians franchise, they took to Reddit to point out what makes the MCU movie and how it will affect Gunn’s upcoming Superman film.

Redditor @NonSpicySamosa shared the one thing that affirmed their belief in Superman: Legacy after watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which most fans also seemed to attest to.

“Watching Rocket's backstory was heartbreaking. And this actually proves their criticism of James Gunn wrong about not being able to write an emotional scene without a joke ruining it. Rocket's backstory didn't have a single joke ruining the moment. Gunn said he wanted to make a compassionate Superman and I wholeheartedly look forward to seeing his take on the character.” wrote @NonSpicySamosa.

This sentiment is echoed by @SimpleSink6563: “Yup. He's very good at getting the audience to actually connect with the characters, and that's gonna be key to a new Superman actually landing.”

“Facts, this is so crucial for the movie and James Gunn rules at that stuff, one of the reasons he’s a really good pick for this. His Superman will likely be super likable and people will really connect with him.” @peanutdakidnappa said to agree.

Variety recently reported that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rocketed to $289.3 million globally, including a beyond-anticipated $170 million at the international box office.

The numbers don’t lie as well as the reviews, which only seem to be complementing the MCU film, citing that it’s the best conclusion to the trilogy.

Gunn repeatedly declared that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 is no longer in his plans, which gives more room for Superman: Legacy to be his main focus.

Superman: Legacy will center on a younger version of Man of Steel, with the plot going to "reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent."

Superman: Legacy premieres on July 11, 2025.
