And there you have it, folks. DC just debuted their first-ever Latino superhero, Blue Beetle, on the big screen. Now, this begs the question: will there be a Blue Beetle 2 in the works?

Will There Be a Blue Beetle 2: Has Blue Beetle Been Renewed For a Sequel?
As of writing, DC Studios and Warner Bros. have yet to confirm whether or not Blue Beetle 2 is officially happening.
However, don’t get discouraged just yet, especially since the post-credit scenes pretty much gave away a sequel plan.
Don’t forget that director Angel Manuel Soto was quick to speak with Total Film ahead of Blue Beetle’s theatrical release, where the helmer laid out what they have in store for the Scarab hero’s DC future:
“Our first movie, the way we wanted to do it, was always with the mentality that we wanted to do two more, at least. And taking the traditional three-act structure of a story, we wanted our first movie to practically be the first act of a saga.”
All that is certain for now is that Blue Beetle 2 would highly depend on the success the first Blue Beetle movie would hold at the box office.
While Blue Beetle mostly received positive reviews in its August release, the film was recently declared the lowest-grossing DCEU film worldwide.
According to Box Office Mojo, the Scarab hero's future is not looking good at all, as it only earned $128M, which is an even lower number than what Shazam! Fury of the Gods made ($133.8M).
For now, the future for a sequel remains bleak, especially since we also have to consider the upcoming DC slate co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are still building.
Possible Blue Beetle 2 Cast: Who Could Return in the Sequel?
Obviously, we’ll be seeing the return of the two main stars of the Blue Beetle film, Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes aka the titular Scarab hero himself, and most definitely, Bruna Marquezine as the daughter of Ted Kord and Jaime’s love interest, Jennifer Kord.
However, given that Jaime’s father, Alberto Reyes (Damián Alcázar), died of a heart attack in the film, it’s less likely we’ll be seeing him return.
There are also the deaths of the film’s main villains, Dr. Sanchez (Harvey Guillén), Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon), and Conrad Carapax (Raoul Max Trujillo), which would make way for a new Blue Beetle villain to make it into the picture for the sequel.
Now that that’s out of the way, we can assume that other cast members who survived, especially what’s left from Jaime Reyes’ family, will be set to return in Blue Beetle 2, namely, the following:
- George Lopez as Uncle Rudy Reyes
- Belissa Escobedo as Milagro Reyes
- Adriana Barraza as Nana
- Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio Reyes
- Becky G as the Voice of Khaji-Da

Possible Blue Beetle 2 Story: How The Ending Sets Up The Sequel
Blue Beetle’s story is far from over.
See, with Blue Beetle getting two post-credit scenes, one in the middle and the other after the closing sequence, DC is already hinting at a potential sequel coming to fruition soon.
We’ve barely scratched the surface as Jaime Reyes is just beginning to bond with Blue Beetle (Khaji Da).
Considering that the Blue Beetle movie hadn’t even included the introduction of Dan Garret, aka the first ever Blue Beetle hero, and we have yet to see Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, a sequel should have no problem coming to fruition.
Not to mention, one of Ted Kord’s closest friends, Booster Gold, has yet to grace the screens and debut the canon friendship for DCU fans to see, so a trilogy, as the director suggested, would set Blue Beetle on the franchise’s map.
Blue Beetle 2 could possibly revolve around Jaime Reyes bonding deeper, far beyond just being a symbiote host for Khaji Da.
The sequel also sets up how Jennifer Kord could reunite with her long-lost father and find more secrets behind the powers and abilities the Scarab artifact possesses.
The DC Comic portrayed Ted Kord training Jaime Reyes under his wing, and since the latter is carrying the legacy of the blue suit, a second Blue Beetle film would expand more on what the first film has yet to bring to the picture.
