Blue Beetle received mostly positive reviews from critics when it was released back in August. The responses were unheard of in the DCEU franchise since most films would receive mixed to negative reception in their releases.

However, despite the glowing responses, it struggled at the box office as it had a soft opening weekend numbers and it didn't have enough legs to propel it to the success that it deserves.

It also continued the DCEU's losing streak as its previous releases also flopped at the box office and its current iteration is set to end very soon with the upcoming release of Aquaman and the Last Kingdom this December before rebooting into the new DCU franchise.

As Blue Beetle is nearing the end of its box office run, it has now received the record of being the lowest-grossing DCEU film worldwide as it only earned $128 million according to the latest data from Box Office Mojo.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which was released earlier this year, previously held the record as it only grossed $133.8 million in its entire run. It is unlikely that Blue Beetle will be able to reach past those numbers.

The film is also already available in digital on-demand platforms and it is set to be released in physical media by the end of this month.

This is definitely not the kind of result that anyone involved in the film wanted, especially since it is historic for being the first Latino-led superhero movie in the DC franchise.

There are a lot of factors that you can consider regarding the film's underwhelming box office whether it's the general audience's lack of enthusiasm over the DC releases as evidenced by the other films or the character's lack of popularity outside the comic book fandom.

It also doesn't help that the ongoing actors' strike has prevented any of the cast members from promoting the film and their presence in its marketing campaign may have helped garner more interest.

Fortunately, despite the film's underwhelming box office results, DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has confirmed that Xolo Maridueña is set to continue as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle in the DCU and this won't have any bearing on his future appearances.

Obviously, the people involved in the making of the film were hoping that its box office would perform better than it did. Perhaps it is destined to become more watched when it is available on Max and the audience discovers it.
