Along with the summer season came some of the hottest and most highly anticipated anime of the year. So, here are the titles we loved the most in the Summer 2023 anime season!
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2: Enchanting Worldbuilding, Magic, and Cure for ED
The way Mushoku Tensei deals with fantasy, magic, and isekai is unparalleled in the entire isekai and fantasy genre.
Having had high expectations from Season 1, the series met and even exceeded them.
In Mushoku Tensei Season 2, the first part centers on a mysterious character who descends from the sky and rescues Princess Ariel from the Asura Kingdom.
Turns out, this mystical character is Sylphy, but she is coerced by Ariel to become one of her bodyguards under the alias Fitz.
The first part of Season 2 beautifully showcases Fitz’s journey and evolution from the Homecoming arc to the Ranoa Magic Academy arc.
I thoroughly enjoyed Fitz’s character and her chemistry with Rudeus Greyrat.
Talking about Rudeus, it is quite a ride for our protagonist, who, throughout Part 1 of the season, is dealing with his ED situation.
It was also satisfying to see Fitz finally revealing that she is Sylphy, and her moments with Rudeus were tender.
I also kind of figured early in the season that Sylphy would play a key role in curing Rudeus’ ED.
The opening and ending theme songs fit seamlessly with the narrative of Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Part 1.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Everything We Expected, and More
Undoubtedly, many fans were looking forward to Jujutsu Kaisen's second season, but it gave me so much more than I had anticipated.
When an anime changes directors mid-way, viewers are bound to wonder how its style will change, but I was not at all disappointed with Shouta Goshozono's work.
The softer, watercolor-like palette works surprisingly well, balancing Jujutsu Kaisen's darker vibes, while the dive into Gojo's past was a surprisingly welcome detour.
Where Season 1 and the movie paint Suguru Geto as an undeniable villain, the beginning of Season 2 delves deeply into his psyche, making us understand his actions.
This makes the Shibuya arc — a story that changed shounen anime forever — all the more heartbreaking.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 continues into the Fall 2023 season, and I can't wait to see where it'll take us!
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead: Seriously Entertaining Despite the Delays
Zom 100 has sadly been rocked by numerous delays, enough that its last three episodes still have no release dates yet. Despite these, the series is still a highlight of Summer 23 thanks to its unique take on a tired genre.
Zombie stories are a dime a dozen nowadays, but Zom 100 manages to give a fresh spin on the decidedly not fresh undead formula.
Instead of a horror series where the protagonist has to go through agonizing events, this anime instead follows a main character who’s happy with the zombie apocalypse.
The protagonist, Akira, is a depressed worker in a black company, but he soon finds freedom in the zombie apocalypse, which means he no longer has to go to the office.
Its hook is quite funny, but the show manages to sustain itself through top-notch animation and other memorable characters that make for an incredibly fun watch.
Here’s hoping that its final three episodes get a release schedule soon!
My Happy Marriage: A Sweet, Subtle, and Sugary Romance Anime

If you’re looking for an anime that will soothe and heal your tired hearts, then My Happy Marriage might be your next show. It is sweet, subtle, and sugary, the same way you like your favorite dessert.
For some, it might be a Cinderella rehash, but for me, personally, it’s more than that.
There are a lot of supernatural and mystery elements in the series that will surely pique your attention, apart from the fluff and romance between the characters that the anime offers.
My Happy Marriage also boasts gorgeous animation, attractive character designs, and lush backdrops that will definitely make a lasting impression on you.
Not to mention the voice actors, who did a very good job bringing the characters to life.
The best part is that My Happy Marriage has a second season already in the works!
Undead Murder Farce: The Weird and the Wonderful

I'm not usually a big fan of detective capers nor Victorian-era gothic horrors, and yet I found Undead Murder Farce to be one of the only shows during the Summer that I watched every week.
The main reason for that is the show's incredible cast, led by a trio that feels more crime-causing than crime-solving.
Tsugaru is a 'demon killer', a half-human circus act freed by an immortal head in a birdcage carried by a gun-sword-wielding maid.
The said head, a detective named Aya, needs Tsugaru's help to track down the person who stole her body, the same person who turned Tsugaru into a monster.
The mysteries themselves feel quite basic – a murder inside a mansion, a diamond heist, and a werewolf terrorizing a village – but the chemistry between the main trio is anything but, each supremely confident and skilled to the point that you can't wait to see what kind of putdown they'll deliver next.
Add to that an eclectic mixture of villains with conflicting motives, and you have an ensemble of the weird and the wacky that turns an everyday anime into something really fun.
