The ever-expanding world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given Marvel Studios an opportunity to add a who's who of Hollywood actors to the franchise's elite roster, but the addition of Aubrey Plaza into Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is surely one for the books!

While Plaza's 'pivotal role' has always simply been teased and speculated to be one of the witches going up against Agatha Harkness' coven, her character for the series has yet to be unveiled - that is, until now.

Quite recently, a couple of trusted news outlets have confirmed that Plaza will be playing the role of Rio Vidal, aka the 'Green Witch' who'll be facing Kathryn Hahn's witch in her own titular spinoff series.

That said, who is the 'Green Witch' Plaza will be portraying in the Agatha spinoff?

When asked about her mystery role to play in the WandaVision spinoff, Plaza told GQ that her MCU character will be a 'really pivotal role'. No elaboration whatsoever on hidden clues we could surmise from her interview.

However, recently, Mashable reported that Aubrey Plaza's Agatha: Darkhold Diaries' role will be a 'Green Witch' that goes by the name of Rio Vidal.

Initially speculated to debut as Morgan le Fay, this comes off as a surprise to most MCU fans, given that we haven't heard of any Rio Vidal. So, who is this Rio Vidal in the Marvel Comics?

Well, you'd be surprised to know that Rio Vidal doesn't actually come originally from the comic books. This witch is supposedly an original character made specifically for the Agatha spinoff.

Although, despite having no prior comic book storylines, we do have a basic description as to who Rio is. She is said to be Agatha Harkness' ex and a 'Green Witch.'

There are Marvel characters who share the same surname in the comic books, though, and these are Contessa Vera Vedal and Norman Vidal.

Both identities have remained secret and unexplored, although they do both exist within the reality of Earth-616, aka the main timeline of the MCU we've been following. Whether or not Rio Vidal is related to them in some way could be explored in the Agatha spinoff.

Aubrey Plaza is known to play eccentric characters, such as April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation and Julie Powers from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In fact, so commonly portrayed as such, she and Wednesday's Jenna Ortega paired up as hosts for the 2023 SAG Awards.

Now, if Marvel did, in fact, create this Rio Vidal character specifically for Plaza, then chances are, we're looking at yet another iconic character for the actress to hail as her own in the MCU.

It remains to be seen if the 'Green Witch' is a direct reference to the Wizard of Oz classic, but we do know that this will definitely be a villainous role coming up against Agatha.

Considering that Rio is Agatha's ex, there's some leverage to play with there, and since Darkhold Diaries is aiming to have Agatha fight against a new coven of witches, needless to say, her ex will likely be a part of the battle.
