After being a fan-favorite in WandaVision, Agatha Harkness will finally get her own solo outing and this time, she can definitely say, "It's been Agatha All Along!"

On Disney Plus Day in November 2021, Marvel Studios revealed its slate of Disney Plus shows; one of which is Agatha's titular show but then, it was still with a different title -- Agatha: House of Harkness.

However, during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, the official logo and release widow of the show was revealed for Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The change in the title has not been explained since then.

By September 2023, though, another title change has occurred for the spin-off: Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Again, this decision hasn't been fully explained, considering that it underwent three title changes already.

Variety did previously report that: "a source with knowledge of the show says that the changing titles are less a sign of indecision on Marvel's part and more of a suggestion that Agatha is up to her old skulduggery."

Honestly, it's going to take a lot more than that to convince MCU fans about the unclear official title for the Agatha spinoff. But for now, the show is still called Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries Release Date: When Will the Marvel Series Come Out?

At the San Diego Comic-Con, the initial name of the show, Agatha: Coven of Chaos was unveiled together with the release window of the series which will be happening in Winter 2023.

However, reports from Giant Freakin Robot say that the series faces a two-year delay and might come out in 2025. To date, there is still no word whether Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will still be out by 2023 or pushed back to 2025.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has not been included in the roster of Disney Plus releases this 2023, so if we are to speculate, the series could be coming out in 2024, at the earliest, or the rumors could be true that the series faces a two-year delay and would be out in 2025.

According to a new U.S. copyright filing (via TheDirect), Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is expected to be released approximately on September 19, 2024.

Although this hasn't been confirmed yet, take note of the use of 'approximate', which could still be subject to change, as much as the new title for the series is.

As for its episode count, a new scoop from The Illuminerdi, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will be as long as WandaVision having nine episodes in total.

Kathryn Hahn will be reprising her role as Agatha Harkness who made her debut in WandaVision as the nosy neighbor of Wanda using the name Agnes.

Kathryn Hahn is also rumored to appear in another series, Ironheart, before appearing on her own. As for the rest of the original WandaVision cast members set to reprise their roles:

  • Emma Caufield as Sarah Proctor/Dottie Jones
  • David Lengel as Harold Proctor/Phil Jones, aka Sarah's husband
  • Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis/Mrs. Hart
  • David Payton as John Collins/Herb
  • Asif Ali as Abilash Tandon/Norm
  • Amos Glick as Dennis
  • Brian Brightman as the Eastview, New Jersey sheriff

While Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is still set to be in Westview, the same town Wanda terrorized in her titular series, we have more new faces joining the crew, the witches coming after Agatha Harkness for their own witch's coven:

  • Kate Forbes as Evanora Harkness aka Agatha's mother
  • Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, a witch
  • Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale, a sorceress
  • Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan (When there's Wiccan, many are expecting his twin brother, Speed, too)
  • Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Hulkling, Billy's boyfriend

Roles for Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, and Okwui Okpokwasili remain undisclosed but speculations surround them being witches and members of Agatha's coven.

Broadway legend Patti LuPone also joins the cast of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries which means that more musical numbers are coming through in the series!

LuPone is set to play Lilia Calderu, a Sicilian witch who has existed for around 450 years already, and she belongs to the coven of Agatha with her ability of divination.

As reported by TheWrap, LuPone revealed her role as Lilia Calderu, whom she claims to be, "hot! She's really hot! She is! She's got a great body and raven hair" before adding further details about her co-stars, as well:

"We are a coven of witches, and the witches are Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and the familiar — if anybody knows Heartstopper — is Joe Locke. And Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and myself. And I play Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch, whose power is divination, and whose trial is tarot."

Speculations include Wanda Maximoff potentially making an appearance in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. If it is about Agatha's past, it may be the debut of various characters in the comics such as Firestar, Nicholas Scratch, and Franklin Richards.

Surprisingly, there are also speculations on the return of Evan Peters in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

His arrival in WandaVision has been a disappointment for some fans of the series as he turns out to be Ralph Bohner, but hopefully, his role will be more substantial for the spinoff.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos will be a spinoff of WandaVision with Jac Schaeffer as the writer and executive producer.

He would be joined by Louis D'esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Marvel's big boss, Kevin Feige, as executive producers of the series.

Peter Cameron, Cameron Squires, and Laura Donney, all involved in WandaVision, would return with Agatha's show.

Also back for the crew are Laura Monti, Giovanna Sarquis, and Jason Rostovsky who made the jump from WandaVision to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Caleb Heymann holds the lens for the cinematography of the series.

The production of Agatha: Coven of Chaos (now Agatha: Darkhold Diaries) started in January 2023 at Trilith Studios.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries filming details may have just confirmed where the set of the series would be taking place and it will be going back where it all started: in Westview.

In a report from The Cosmic Circus, Agatha: [Darkhold Diaries] is currently with the working title of "My Pretty." This is a reference to The Wizard of Oz where the Wicked Witch of the West tells Dorothy and her dog, "I'll get you, my pretty."

Agatha is a witch in the MCU, there's no doubt about that. However, looking at the working title having a familial touch, it may hint at the arrival of Abigail Harkness, a relative of Agatha who got into a relationship with Obadiah Shaw.

In a new U.S. copyright filing, though, apart from the Agatha spin-off's title changing, we also get a short glimpse of the first episode's plot, which you can check out below:

"In the first episode, we see Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in. She can't wait to go back to her old murderous ways, only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two."

It could also mean that there is a chaotic coven that Agatha Harkness would be leading and that means more witches may come into the MCU!

That being said, leaks reveal that Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will be dealing with two covens, one under Agatha and the other being that of Aubrey Plaza's character, Rio Vidal, whose coven may be connected to Mephisto and Agatha would have to keep Billy safe.

Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd are reportedly the reincarnations of Scarlet Witch's children whom Agatha would have to keep safe in her coven.

Unfortunately, there is no trailer yet for Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Considering that Marvel Phase Five has constantly faced release date delays what with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the least we could do is make an educated guess of when the trail would release.

If the September 2024 release is accurate, then there's a chance we'll be seeing our first looks and teased around early 2024!

Everyone’s beloved witch will be back as Kathryn Hahn reprises her role in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, so better get ready for more sorcery and spells. (And quite possibly, musical numbers!)
