Kyosuke Hori: The Mysterious and Peculiar Father of Kyoko Hori
Kyosuke is Kyoko and Sota’s father, who is barely at home. He acts more like an annoying uncle than a father to his children due to his nonsense jokes and unnecessary comments, which annoy Hori the most.
Not much is known about Kyosuke. His age is also unknown, but we can at least speculate that he is still in his early 30s.
He doesn’t look like a 40-year-old man at all, due to his choice of words and lifestyle.

In the Horimiya manga, Kyosuke is shown as a stubborn high school student.
He always rides his motorcycle to school and parks it in a restricted area. He also smokes a lot, which shows how he doesn’t respect the school’s regulations.
Surprisingly, Kyosuke attended the same school as Hori’s mother, Yuriko, and the two of them had a pretty eventful start. Yuriko is an oddball, but she has strong chemistry with Kyosuke.
In a sudden turn of events, Kyosuke witnessed how Yuriko is unlike every girl he has ever known. She is always calm and collected, always smiling at people, but when she snaps, all hell breaks loose.
At that moment, Kyosuke knew that he had found the woman whom he would marry and have children with.
The rest is history, as Kyosuke and Yuriko started a family, and Kyoko, as well as Sota, were born.
But before Sota was born, Kyosuke was shown to have been away from the house.
This is evident in one event in the anime when Kyoko got sick and Yuriko had to leave her child alone at home due to her job.

Why Is Hori’s Father Always Away in Horimiya?
In the Horimiya fandom, it is said that Hori’s father, Kyosuke, is always away due to his job. He is barely at home because his job is far from their residence.
In Japan, it’s not surprising to see married couples living separately. There exists a so-called "commuting husband and/or wife" because they have to live in a different place that is closer to their job.
Perhaps this is the reason why Kyosuke is missing in the Hori household. But to this day, we can only speculate about what kind of job Kyosuke has that pushed him to be absent from Hori’s formative days.
Some believe that Kyosuke is a hair stylist because he was always fussing over Miyamura’s long hair, but we couldn’t confirm this assumption.

Because of this, Kyoko most likely had to stand on her own two feet without any proper guidance from her father and mother.
She grew up as an independent girl who always took the lead, as proven by her strong personality.
This might also explain Hori’s yearning for Miyamura’s rough personality. She probably has father issues since she never really experienced being disciplined by her father.
The good thing now is that Kyosuke is finally staying in the Hori household after Miyamura started seeing Kyoko.

Are Hori’s Parents Divorced?
No, Hori’s parents are not divorced. They were just living separately before Kyoko and Miyamura decided to become a couple.
As explained above, Hori’s father, Kyosuke, is always away from the house, probably due to his job or his marital issues with Yuriko.
In fact, Yuriko has never seen Kyosuke for more than two years after he decided to leave the house. Because of this, Kyosuke’s stuff was thrown out of the house, including his chopsticks.
Kyosuke had to buy everything he needs for the house, even though it was troublesome.
He also had to sleep on the sofa, even though he is still married to Yuriko. The way Kyosuke acts in front of Yuriko proves that the two of them have a problem.
But fortunately, Kyosuke decided to show up and stick around. It might have something to do with Miyamura since Kyosuke wants her daughter to live her life without fulfilling any of his responsibilities to Sota or Yuriko.

Why Does Hori Treat Her Father Badly?
Due to Kyosuke’s disappearance and his annoying behavior, Hori treats him badly. But surely, Hori doesn’t really hate his father. It’s just that Kyosuke is too much for Hori to handle, especially now that she has a boyfriend.
What’s more, Kyosuke doesn’t really act like a father to Hori. He doesn’t know anything about her, including her likes and dislikes.
He was gone for a long time, and he doesn’t know a thing or two about taking care of Hori and Sota, which adds to Hori’s frustration.
Moreover, Hori doesn’t address Kyosuke as her father. She calls him by his first name, even going so far as to call him without honorifics.
