That's right - if you've been living under a rock over the past couple of weeks, you'll be forgiven for having missed this mind-blowing pieces of news.

Harry Potter is actually being rebooted, which you'll either take as great news, bad news, or "meh" news.

Whatever camp you sit in, there's no denying that a reboot of one of the most beloved film franchises ever is a little premature.

But with that said, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it but jump on board, or stay on the platform and watch this potential trainwreck unfold!

The chances are, though, that this will be a big hit - we don't think Warner Bros. and HBO Max are taking that big of a risk.

The reboot might be a guaranteed success, after all - even if it doesn't attract diehard fans of the films, it will attract the book-lovers in droves.

The chances are, though, that it will attract at least a portion of fans of the film, which is probably massive in its own right.

As the reboot is said to be a "faithful adaption" of all seven books, with seven seasons, each of them dedicated to a single book, many will be curious.

As such, Warner Bros. probably knows they're onto a winner, which might explain why they're choosing to reboot rather than tell a new story.

Just look at how the Fantastic Beasts spin-off series turned out. While the last two films were mired in controversy, they were also pretty bad.

So, each of the seven seasons of the Harry Potter reboot will focus on the following books in chronological order:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

So, when is the Harry Potter reboot being released? Well, we know that the series will be a "decade-long adaptation", so once it's here, it's here to stay.

The Harry Potter films also spanned 10 years (at the cinema, of course), with each one averaging one to two years apart between releases.

As the series will also span 10 years, we know that the gaps between each of the seven seasons will likely mirror that of the films, for the most part at least.

So, no longer will the films be canon - depending, of course, what you consider to be "primary canon" where Harry Potter is concerned.

Perhaps you don't even consider the films as such, assuming you prefer the books. But if the series is indeed to be a faithful adaptation, then maybe it will become you're new canon.

Either way, you can kiss the following films goodbye:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1 (2010)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2 (2011)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
