There have been rumors for a while now that Lucasfilm is planning to turn the fourth season of The Mandalorian into a movie due to the recently concluded Hollywood strikes that derailed some of the plans for the future of the Star Wars franchise.

So far, the studio has not officially confirmed the rumor yet, but it ignited further recently when veteran industry reporter Jeff Sneider revealed that he heard from his sources that it might happen.

The scoop surprised some fans since there were expectations that the Daisy Ridley New Jedi Order project is going to be the next Star Wars movie, but that doesn't look to be the case anymore if it turns out to be true.

Now, a new report has shed some light on the rumor that suggests that it might not happen at all.

MakingStarWars recently debunked the rumors surrounding Lucasfilm's alleged plans to turn the fourth season of The Mandalorian into a movie.

They heard from their sources that the fourth season of The Mandalorian is still moving forward as a regular TV series and won't turn into a movie after all. Bespin Bulletin also backed up the scoop in their own report.

In addition, they also reported that the planned story for the potential second season of Ahsoka won't be absorbed into the fourth season of The Mandalorian.

Since Lucasfilm has neither confirmed nor debunked the rumor itself, the two outlets' reports are likely to be true and it makes more sense for the show to continue with a new season since it is the Star Wars franchise's signature show in the live-action TV space.

If they decided to turn it into a movie, it would have also pushed back the development of the project since Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni would need to turn the eight scripts that they wrote into 2 to 2.5 hours of material.

With all the uncertainties that are happening right now, the possibility of the fourth season being turned into a movie is still out there although, for now, we can still expect a traditional TV season format when we see Din Djarin and Grogu again.

All three seasons of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
