There's no denying that Kylo Ren had tremendous upside as a villain. Played by Adam Driver in all three films of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the character would quickly become a favorite amongst fans, despite the sequels failing to meet expectations.

However, not everyone was satisfied with the conclusion of Ben Solo's story, who was given a redemption arc before his demise. Now, almost four years after The Rise of Skywalker's release, the actor reveals new information about Kylo's supposed creative direction.

Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show to promote his upcoming film Ferrari, Driver revealed new details about Kylo's Episode IX arc and how the villain turning his back on the dark side to align with Rey wasn't part of initial plans. Turns out, he already had something in mind but it was later changed.

He shared: "I had an overall arc in mind that he wanted to do, which then changed. His idea was almost the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident, the most committed to the Dark Side, and by the last movie he's the most vulnerable, and weak, and he wanted to start at the opposite, where this character was the most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the three movies would be most committed to the Dark Side."

The "he" Driver was referring to wasn't mentioned but it could be director JJ Abrams, who returned to direct the sequel trilogy's final installment.

Kylo being given a Darth Vader-esque ending seemed like a no-brainer but Lucasfilm sure dropped the ball on turning him into Star Wars' most powerful villains. The good thing is, Ben's redemption leaves the door open for him to return as a Force Ghost down the line.

Star Wars' sequel trilogy is available to stream on Disney+.
