The future of The Mandalorian remains uncertain at the moment since the development of the fourth season was halted due to the ongoing strikes that have affected all major Hollywood productions.

We know at this point that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are planning for more seasons of The Mandalorian and other shows within the post-Return of the Jedi timeline before segueing to the Filoni-helmed crossover movie that will release in the future.

With all the delays that are happening now, there have been questions about whether Lucasfilm will still proceed with its plan prior to the strikes or make some changes to adjust to the current situation.

Now, a new report has revealed a major development in the fourth season of The Mandalorian that could overhaul the future of the Star Wars franchise.

A recent report from Making Star Wars has claimed that Lucasfilm and Disney are considering the option of turning the fourth season of The Mandalorian into a movie.

The potential change into a feature film project is being considered due to the ongoing strikes as it has caused a prolonged delay with no end in sight soon and the studio is concerned that they might not be able to produce enough prerequisite shows before Filoni's crossover movie.

It should be pointed out that this plan is far from being definitive although the executives at Lucasfilm and Disney allegedly like the idea It's also unknown yet whether Favreau and Filoni are also on board.

If the strike ends very soon, the plan will obviously not happen and the fourth season will proceed as a series as intended from the beginning. After all, there's a different development process that they have to go through again if they want to make it into a movie.

It is hard to tell at the moment whether the plan will actually proceed or not since the current strike is an ongoing situation and we don't know what the state of the industry will be in the coming months.

We do know that Lucasfilm is also keen on doing Star Wars movies again as they already reserved release dates for 2026 onwards. However, they also still need to provide content for the Disney+ service which is probably the argument that you can make on why the plan won't happen.
