A few months ago, there were rumors that Lucasfilm was planning to turn the fourth season of The Mandalorian into a feature film although it was quickly shot down.

The recently-concluded Hollywood strikes have delayed the development of the show's highly-anticipated fourth season as it was supposed to begin production around this time. It is unknown yet when they will be able to resume.

With the lack of news and updates surrounding the fourth season, some fans have been concerned regarding its progress even though it is inevitable that they will continue the story of the series.

Now, a new report has surfaced regarding the development of the fourth season and it looks like the initial rumor might happen after all.

Reporter Jeff Sneider claimed in The Hot Mic podcast (via Bespin Bulletin) that he heard from sources that Lucasfilm is now planning to turn the fourth season of The Mandalorian into the next Star Wars movie.

The untitled Daisey Ridley New Jedi Order film was previously set to be the franchise's next movie, but that doesn't look to be the case anymore according to Sneider. The strikes were cited as the reason why the studio is considering the changes.

"I think we’ve all been operating under the impression that the Daisy Ridley movie was going to be the next Star Wars movie, I know I certainly was," he said.

"They announced like three movies and it was like, ‘Okay, the Daisy Ridley one is the furthest along I think.’ It has a director and all that. Anyway, it doesn’t sound like that may be the next one."

Sneider acknowledged his debunking of the rumor in the past and, now, he is reversing his stance as he heard himself that it might be true. He also speculated that Lucasfilm might announce it soon.

"A couple of months ago, I shot this one down, that there were rumors that season four of The Mandalorian could be turned into a movie. I think at the time I didn’t think that was necessarily the case. However, that is now what I am starting to hear," the reporter explained.

"That the odds are in that project's favour, whatever season four of The Mandalorian turns out to be, whoever is in it, what it turns out, whatever shape it takes, it is looking like that could be the next Star Wars movie and that might be the thing that’s announced before the end of the year."

If Sneider's scoop ends up being true, it will be a surprising move from Lucasfilm since it could likely mark the end of the hit series if they proceed with the plan to jump to the big screen.

It also poses a question of how they will handle the transition such as changes in the scripts and development plans. It is likely that Jon Favreau could also step up to become the director of the film.

For now, let's wait for any news and updates regarding the potential changes that will happen in the hit series and the likely massive shakeup that it will result in.

All three seasons of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
