The DCU franchise is rebooting and The Flash is just the beginning. Now that The Flash reintroduced our key Justice League heroes such as Batman in the ever-evolving DC reboot, could we expect The Flash sequel to happen?

The Flash sequel has not been confirmed yet, although there are plenty of interviews pointing out that The Flash 2 is inevitable.

At first, during the Q&A at CinemaCon 2023 (via Collider), The Flash director Andy Muschietti admitted:

“We didn’t talk about [The Flash sequel]. I think that we’re all waiting to see how this movie does. Of course, there’s excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. Of course, there’s an architecture in DC that is brewing and it’s being created.”

It would seem that the DCU is not planning on halting any future projects for The Flash, despite the many unclosed controversies surrounding the star, Ezra Miller.

Not to mention, how The Flash’s ending sets up the future DC movies, as well.

As for The Flash 2’s confirmation, there has been no Flash-related news for now, especially since Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the next upcoming DC film to hit the big screens, and even that sequel is facing its own trainwrecks.

As for its potential release date, should it ever come to view, Gunn’s new DC slate Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters begins with Superman: Legacy (currently slated to release on July 11, 2025), which means The Flash sequel could come around sometime in 2026.

Despite Ezra Miller’s countless unaddressed controversies, Warner Bros. and even co-CEO James Gunn and The Flash director Muschietti collectively agreed on letting the actor stay for the future of the franchise.

As for who could possibly return for The Flash 2, well, it is likely for us to see Barry’s father, Henry Allen, again (Ron Livingston), and Barry’s love interest Iris West (Kiersey Clemons).

As of writing, since The Flash 2 has yet to come to its early stages of development, a list of cast members has not been confirmed, either.

Additionally, since the majority of The Flash contained crucial cameos from classic Batmans and the Justice League members, it is difficult to pinpoint which cameos will return for The Flash sequel.

That said, the cast members listed below are the actors included in 2023’s The Flash:

  • Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne
  • Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne
  • Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth
  • Sasha Calle as Supergirl
  • Michael Shannon as Zod
  • Maribel Verdu as Barry’s mother, Nora Allen
  • Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Patty Spivot
  • Rudy Mancuso as Albert Desmond
  • Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman
  • Jason Momoa as Aquaman

Will Ezra Miller Return as the Flash?

According to a recent report from Variety, Ezra Miller will not be joining the new DCU slate as the Flash, after all. In fact, the report stated that the new plan involves recasting all members of the Justice League to give way to the rebuilding of the franchise.

The catch is that even though DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn had already recast Henry Cavill's Superman, no other announcements have been officially made about the status of other DC heroes.

Pretty much with what Gunn said back in April, "We're just going to have to wait and see. We'll see how things go, so, you know."

The Flash ended with Barry Allen successfully reverting the damage he inflicted on the multiverse. Now that he reversed his initial goal of bringing his mother back to life, all seems to be well taken care of in his own reality.

His father escapes prison after providing evidence on his whereabouts the day Barry’s mother died, Barry is moving forward in his own potential love interest with reporter/college classmate Iris West, and he gets back to his own reality.

However, when Bruce Wayne/Batman pulls up to congratulate Barry for getting his father out, the Bruce Wayne that comes out is not Ben Affleck anymore (the known Batman of Ezra Miller’s Justice League reality).

Instead, we see George Clooney as the ‘true’ Batman in reality.

Considering that Barry can time travel, it is likely for us to witness yet another time or multiverse jump in The Flash sequel.

Even though he defeated the ‘Dark Flash’ by refusing to repeat his mistake of ruining the multiverse, there is a chance for the ‘Dark Flash’ to return should Barry commit to abusing his time-traveling ability again.

Of course, there’s the post-credits scene in which Jason Momoa’s Aquaman made a brief appearance of being drunk in Barry’s arms. He hands over a precious Atlantean treasure to Barry for some reason.

Though we know nothing about the Atlantean treasure yet or why Aquaman decided to specifically give it to the Flash, these are perfect set-ups for The Flash sequel to happen.
