Sporting a purple suit with his skin turning into hardened melted lava, he is known as the ‘Dark Flash.’ He was introduced in Barry Allen’s solo movie, The Flash, as the ‘evil’ version of him.

He appeared the moment Barry changed his origin story from the past and was setting off to return to his present time, in hopes he would finally reunite with his mother. However, before he could even return, the dark figure pushed him out of his speed force and landed him in Young Barry’s timeline.

Do take note though, the ‘Dark Flash’ we see in The Flash is different from Black Flash and Reverse Flash.

Although we did not see Reverse Flash in the movie, it is implied he was behind the death of Nora Allen, Barry’s mom, as it indicated in the comics.

So, no, the ‘Dark Flash’ is different from Reverse Flash.

Does this mean ‘Dark Flash’ is the villain in The Flash? Well, in a sense, he kind of is, considering that he later on revealed the reason why he prevented Present Barry from returning to his original timeline.

As it turned out, the Dark Flash intentionally dropped Present Barry seeing as they both carried a similar goal: to reverse the past.

The Dark Flash was the result behind Present Barry’s insistent nature to reverse the death of his mother, the very evidence that indicated the consequences behind his actions, behind trying to manipulate time and instill chaos into the multiverse.

The Dark Flash also interestingly had the combination of colors of Young Barry’s (Blue) and Present Barry’s (Red) super suit color code. Not to mention, the same scar on his face that Young Barry acquired while trying to save Supergirl.

See, Present Barry wasn’t the only one interested in revamping the past. Young Barry, after falling in love with Kara / Supergirl, kept on traveling back in time to reverse the death of Supergirl from General Zod’s clutches.

This, in turn, made Dark Flash return to both of them.

When the Dark Flash witnessed Present Barry trying to prevent Young Barry from repeating his mistake, the Dark Flash attempted to kill him.

That is, until Young Barry sacrificed himself, killing the Dark Flash, and Young Barry. They were the ones connected in the same timeline, leaving Present Barry to make things right.

The ‘Dark Flash’ was presented as a cautionary tale for Barry Allen to reflect on his mistake of trying to reverse the past, trying to reverse what made him Barry and the Flash in the first place.

Although DC has yet to confirm if we’ll be seeing the Dark Flash return, if Barry ends up time traveling, it is possible for the ‘evil’ Flash to come back on screens.

As of now though, even The Flash sequel has yet to get its greenlight, so it is difficult to say. However, with the multiverse officially a part of the DC Universe now, it is likely for us to encounter the Dark Flash in the future films.
