Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Project Begins Filming Sooner Than You Think

At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm revealed big news by revealing that there are three new Star Wars movies coming soon!

One film follows Rey Skywalker building a new Jedi Order where Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver return to reprise their roles.

Another comes from Dave Filoni striving to create an interconnected MandoVerse (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, etc.).

Lastly, the third film will tell the story of the first Jedi.

Thor director Taika Waititi’s project, unfortunately, was not on that list. Despite so, Deadline offers an exciting update on the director’s anticipated film.

According to the news outlet, director Waititi remains ‘very excited’ about the project’s progression. Taika’s Star Wars film begins filming in 2024.

The once rumored franchise film is soon coming to fruition. Previous reports noted that production could begin as early as April or May of 2023, but has actually yet to happen.

In fact, Waititi’s project’s last update was back in March, where his film was claimed to still be in development at Lucasfilm.

We know little to no details about the Taika Waititi-led Star Wars film, aside from the fact that he will be leading his own story.

Though he was initially rumored to even star in his own film, like with what he did with Jojo Rabbit (2019), the director debunked this by saying, “Yeah, that rumor’s about three years old.”

We have yet to get a glimpse of how Waititi could take his own spin in his own Star Wars project.

Although it is worth mentioning that he has directed an episode of The Mandalorian, specifically Season 1, Episode 8, titled ‘Redemption.’

Not to mention, Waititi made a breakthrough in Marvel the moment he created the third Thor film, Ragnarok, which definitely uplifted the franchise and exceeded the expectations of MCU fans.

Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film has no release date yet, but is set to begin filming sometime in 2024.
