While Lucasfilm is working on major projects for Disney+ and the big screen, many Star Wars fans are still discussing the sequel trilogy. The trio of big screen movies (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker) delivered an exciting new story that continued that Skywalker Saga while bringing back familiar characters from the original trilogy. The sequel movies introduced fans to Daisy Ridley's Rey, John Boyega's Finn, and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron.
The last time audiences saw Rey was in Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker, where she is settling in on Tatooine as she unsheathed a never-before-seen yellow lightsaber before officially adopting the name Rey Skywalker and gazing into the sunset. This shot officially concluded the Skywalker Saga as Ridley's character was the last character shown on screen in the nine-movie series, but fans are wondering if Rey will return in a future Star Wars movie or TV show.

Will Rey return in a future Star Wars movie or TV show?
Although Lucasfilm has a major slate of Star Wars movies and TV shows planned for the next few years there are no signs indicating that Rey could return to continue her story. The Rise of the Skywalker seems to complete Rey's story, making a comeback for Ridley's character somewhat uncertain.
However, if and when Lucasfilm decides to bring back Rey, Ridley made it clear that she'll be ready to reprise her iconic character.
What's Daisy Ridley's response to Rey's potential return?
Twitter Star Wars enthusiast @REYSKYGOAT shared a video of an interview with Daisy Ridley from the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards.
When asked about a potential return to Star Wars, the 30-year-old actress smiled and said, "I'll always be Rey."
Is Rey canon in Star Wars?
Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy of movies are officially produced by Lucasfilm and Disney, Rey is considered canon. Of course, many fans are not pleased with how the Skywalker Saga concluded in The Rise of Skywalker, and they want to see the storylines changed after the Episode 9 was released, as there was also major backlash on Rey's final comments declaring she had becoming a Skywalker.
As Express.co.uk pointed out, rumors have been circulating in the Star Wars fandom that unused Star Wars footage of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo could be used for a remake of the sequel trilogy on Disney+. According to reports, there are plans to spread the story over three seasons, and ten mini-series which will include an unseen ten-minute scene between the three legacy characters which was cut from The Force Awakens, with further rumors claiming that George Lucas will be making a return as a director.
Although Lucasfilm might make changes to the Skywalker Saga in the rumoured remake, it's likely that Rey will remain canon.
Is Rey a Palpatine or Skywalker?
The final movie of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, revealed that Rey was in fact a descendant of the villainous Emperor Palpatine, who was her grandfather. Biologically, Rey is a Palpatine.
However, at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, the title of the film becomes clear. While the Skywalker bloodline is technically gone, Rey honors Luke and Leia by adopting their family name.
