Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy of movies are officially produced by Lucasfilm and Disney, Rey is considered canon. Of course, many fans are not pleased with how the Skywalker Saga concluded in The Rise of Skywalker, and they want to see the storylines changed after the Episode 9 was released, as there was also major backlash on Rey's final comments declaring she had becoming a Skywalker.

As Express.co.uk pointed out, rumors have been circulating in the Star Wars fandom that unused Star Wars footage of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo could be used for a remake of the sequel trilogy on Disney+. According to reports, there are plans to spread the story over three seasons, and ten mini-series which will include an unseen ten-minute scene between the three legacy characters which was cut from The Force Awakens, with further rumors claiming that George Lucas will be making a return as a director.

Although Lucasfilm might make changes to the Skywalker Saga in the rumoured remake, it's likely that Rey will remain canon.

Is Rey a Palpatine or Skywalker?

The final movie of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, revealed that Rey was in fact a descendant of the villainous Emperor Palpatine, who was her grandfather. Biologically, Rey is a Palpatine.

However, at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, the title of the film becomes clear. While the Skywalker bloodline is technically gone, Rey honors Luke and Leia by adopting their family name.
