Taika Waititi has been working on his Star Wars movie for a long time now at this point and we still have not heard any significant update on its progress beyond the development phase.

There have been some rumors and speculations that the project was already shelved by Lucasfilm just like the other long-gestated Star Wars movies that were in the works, but reports eventually debunked the claim.

However, during Waititi's recent speech at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in honor of Shawn Levy, who is also working on a Star Wars movie of his own, fans speculated that the project was in danger again when he joked that he would never finish his script.

Now, we have another clarification regarding the status of the project and it looks like it is still definitely alive despite the rumors.

Above the Line's Jeff Sneider recently reported on The Hot Mic podcast that Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie is still in the works at the moment and he debunked the rumors regarding its cancellation.

He added that Waititi already turned in multiple drafts of the script and he is expected to submit another one once the ongoing writers' strike ends.

However, he did note that there are other writers who have also contributed to the script aside from Waititi which is interesting information since Krysty Wilson-Cairns was initially announced as the co-writer of the script. It looks like that is not the case anymore.

Despite what fans have speculated recently, it looks like we can finally put it to rest since we know now that Waititi is still committed to making his Star Wars movie and the strikes have halted any work just like any other project across Hollywood.

It might take a while before we will be able to find out whether Waititi's movie will move forward or not, but one thing's for sure for now is that it is not yet getting the same fate as the other theatrical projects in the Star Wars franchise that were previously in the works at Lucasfilm.
