The Star Wars franchise has once again reasserted its dominance in the world of streaming, with the Ahsoka series receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
Soon enough, the beloved science fiction property is returning to the big screen and if you've been keeping up with all the news surrounding it, you're well aware that a slew of films are currently being developed.
However, it looks like one awaited film project is on the verge of getting canned altogether, despite Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's assurance that it's still part of the slate.
Star Wars: Taika Waititi Casts Doubt on Mystery Film Ever Seeing the Light of Day
Taika recently made an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival (via ComicBookMovie) to present the TIFF Tribute Award to fellow filmmaker Shawn Levy who also happens to be working on his own Star Wars project as well as Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3.
Waititi hinted that his film is still not finished, saying: "Once he’s had his way with [the Deadpool] franchise, like a cruel and indiscriminate virus, he’ll move on to another, and another, and another. And then eventually, probably Star Wars. And unlike me, maybe this guy manages to finish the script for that."
Now, we're not entirely sure if the director was serious or just poking fun at the status of his long-delayed film but reputable scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared the report on X, teasing that Waititi's film might not see the light of day after all.

As it stands, key details surrounding Waititi's Star Wars film remain under wraps but we're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll eventually finish the project's script because we've already seen what he can bring to the table through his The Mandalorian involvement and it would be a shame if his movie gets shelved for good.
