Last year, we learned that Free Guy director Shawn Levy is set to direct his own Star Wars movie. While the plot details are currently under wraps, it is exciting nonetheless to see him get involved in the franchise.

Since then, there has been a lack of updates on its progress since Lucasfilm is more focused on the other Star Wars theatrical projects that are also in the works while Levy is currently busy working on Marvel's Deadpool 3.

Nevertheless, there are some fans who are curious whether Levy has already started working on some ideas for what his Star Wars film will look like and now he has an update on where the project is currently at.

In an interview with Collider, Levy was asked regarding the latest status of his Star Wars movie. He revealed that the development phase already began prior to the current writers' strike, which has halted all projects across Hollywood.

"We were just starting the process of developing my movie, and the writer strike happened. So we are in that holding pattern that so much of our industry is in," he said.

In order for Levy's project to continue, the studios essentially need to finally agree on a fair deal with the Writers' Guild of America (WGA), which has been on strike for four months although negotiations are set to resume again this week.

However, even if the strike ends very soon and writers can resume working on their respective projects again, it might still take a long while before Levy's movie will come to fruition since he is busy with other endeavors and it's also not Lucasfilm's top priority amongst its theatrical projects.

Despite the long development that the project will take, it also sounds like Levy is very much keen on making sure that it will happen and, hopefully, it won't have the same fate as the other projects that have either been shelved or stuck in development for years now.

For now, let's wait and see for any updates in the near future regarding Levy's Star Wars project once the industry is back to normal and when his schedule lightens up after he's done working on Deadpool 3.
