Recently, we learned a major update on the long-gestated Star Wars series Lando when it was reported that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen took over the writing duties for the project after its original writer Justin Simien exited.

The Glovers' involvement in the series excited some fans since it suggested that Donald won't just reprise his role from Solo: A Star Wars Story, but he will also be heavily involved behind the scenes and shape his character's solo adventure.

However, given that the writers' strike is still ongoing and no end is in sight very soon, it will take a while before they will resume their work on the project which also means that we won't be seeing it until a few more years.

Now, it looks like the project has taken a huge creative overhaul as Lando Calrissian's solo adventure will no longer happen in a TV series format.

While appearing in the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast (via Bespin Bulletin), Stephen Glover confirmed in the interview that the Lando project is now a movie instead of a TV series which is what it was originally intended back when the development started.

He didn't explain further why the project's format was changed as he wasn't sure whether he could discuss it due to the writers' strike.

"Oh boy, you shouldn’t have said that. I mean, I can pretty much be like, we’re doing a... it’s not even show. I’m sure the nerds will figure it out anyway, they’ll read my lips or something," Glover said.

"The idea right now is to do a movie, you know? Like that’s the thing, like right now, because of the strike, it’s sort of like telephone with all the information coming out."

This is an interesting tidbit to hear since we've seen recently that Lucasfilm is committed again to making more Star Wars films and this could potentially add to their slate down the line once they figure out the script that they can push for production.

However, it is also a surprising move since Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed at the box office and this project could be seen as an extension of that. Perhaps the idea that the brothers have is more suitable to a feature film format which is why they made the decision.

Since it is still in the development stage and the writers' strike has halted any work on the project, we might not hear any new updates for a while and it would be interesting to see if they'll retain the current plan in its format.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is available to stream on Disney+.
