We first see the mysterious World Between Worlds toward the end of Season 4 of Star Wars Rebels.

Given that Ahsoka is so full of Rebels references that it's practically Rebels Season 5, we aren't surprised to see that the mystical place would feature in the show.

The World Between Worlds is a mystical plane within the Force. It consists of floating paths that lead to doors. Each door represents a moment in space and time, connecting the world.

Going through one of these can alter the course of history by canceling events that have transpired.

But one should never do so carelessly, as altering one event can undo many others.

In Rebels, Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren infiltrate a delegation of the Empire who are investigating a Jedi temple; the key to the World Between Worlds. Ahsoka suggests that there are more ways to access it.

In Rebels, the temple could only be unlocked by decoding a painting of the Mortis Gods, who appeared in Clone Wars.

Sabine, a known art over, manages to solve the riddle and Ezra accesses the temple, not knowing what he is going to find.

He ends up saving Ahsoka from her battle with Darth Vader, preventing her certain death.

But in Ahsoka the titular character ends up in the World Between Worlds once more, after falling from a high altitude in the planet Seatos.

So, how did she access the mysterious location once more? There are three theories:

First, it is possible that, after the events of Rebels, Ahsoka studied and understood the World Between Worlds and got to a point where she could visit it at will.

Second, Seatos could, theoretically, be connected to the enigmatic World, although that would be too lucky a coincidence.

Finally, the World Between Worlds might appear in multiple locations and be accessible through multiple means for those who are strong in the Force.

Most Jedi simply don't know about the place at all, so they wouldn't know where to look.

Anakin's appearance on the path, rather than behind one of the doors, begs another question: is the World Between Worlds an afterlife?

After all, Anakin appears before Ahsoka looking like himself, rather than as an incorporeal Force Ghost.

If this was the case, though, wouldn't Kanan have also appeared for Ezra, back in Rebels?

The World Between Worlds is full of mysteries we can't begin to untangle. Hopefully, the next Ahsoka episodes will reveal the answer.
