A new Star Wars comic is set to release this May to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace.

Throughout this year, Lucasfilm is celebrating the groundbreaking first film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy including a theatrical rerelease and Empire Magazine special issues featuring new interviews with the cast.

Now, the celebration is extending to a special comic book release helmed by a Star Wars veteran.

Darth Vader comic series writer Greg Pak announced that he is working on a 40-page comic that will celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace.

The new comic will be a "deep dive into the heart and soul of young Anakin" and explores "never-before-seen, revelatory stories set before, after, and between the scenes of the classic movie."

He also teased that it will cover the "dream of a Jedi, the gift of a Tusken Raider, the heart of a Gungan, the ache of a mother, and the horror of a hero".

The first issue is set to arrive in comic book stands this May to coincide with the film's anniversary month. An exact date will be announced later.

The idea of filling in the gaps of the events in the Star Wars timeline is nothing new for the franchise, as we've seen it countless times before with notable examples such as The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows.

However, in the case of this upcoming comic, it will be exploring the gaps within the film itself and it is interesting to see what kind of supplementary material Pak is going to add to the story.

There is no doubt that this is going to be a special treat for fans since they will get to see more of the story behind The Phantom Menace and learn more about the events that happened in that era.
