The untitled New Jedi Order movie was slated to be the next Star Wars movie in Lucasfilm's attempt to revive the theatrical slate. The project, which was announced last year, will bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker and it is going to be set several years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

However, it all changed last week when Lucasfilm announced The Mandalorian & Grogu as their new next Star Wars movie. Production is slated to begin later this year with the show's creator Jon Favreau directing.

While the studio indicated in their announcement that the new Ridley movie is still in the works, it is a sign that the project is being put on the backburner at the moment.

Since then, fans have been wondering why the project is no longer the next movie in the franchise.

Now, a new report has shed some light on the alleged latest status of the project and it looks like they are experiencing a behind-the-scenes setback.

According to a recent report from World of Reel, Disney has decided to delay the Star Wars New Jedi Order movie indefinitely as they have no confidence that it will move forward in the near future.

They claimed that creative differences are happening between the project's writer Steven Knight and Lucasfilm.

When Knight submitted a draft of the script to the studio, he was given a lot of notes and had to start writing again from scratch. There is also a possibility that Knight might exit the project due to the frustrations and he is also more focused right now on the Peaky Blinders movie.

So far, Lucasfilm has not confirmed the claims that were made in the report.

If the information that the outlet reported is true, it is a concerning update as it also follows the pattern of many Star Wars projects in the past that were shelved after being stuck in development for a couple of years.

At this point, it won't be surprising if Knight's potential exit ends up happening and they'll tap another writer again to take over the screenplay duties of the movie and hopefully satisfy the needs of the studio.

For now, let's wait and see for more updates regarding the development of the project and whether it will be able to overcome the fate of the doomed Star Wars projects in the past.
