After playing Kraglin in the MCU films, Sean Gunn is now part of the DCU franchise as he is set to reprise the role of Weasel from The Suicide Squad in the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos.

His involvement in the new franchise is not surprising since he's always been part of his brother James Gunn's projects since the earlier years of their respective careers.

Now, it looks like Gunn will have a bigger presence in the franchise as he is set to play another key character in future projects.

According to Deadline, Sean Gunn is set to play the villainous Maxwell Lord in future DCU projects.

It is unknown yet when will Gunn make his first appearance in the role, but the report stated that the character is going to be referenced in Superman: Legacy, which is set to begin production early next year.

It won't be the character's first foray in the big screen since Pedro Pascal previously played him in Wonder Woman 1984 where he was the main villain of the film.

While Gunn's now multiple roles in the DCU may cause some confusion amongst fans, he is only doing a voice role for Weasel, who is a creature-like character and doesn't have any physical resemblance to the actor so there should not be any issue at all.

It is also an interesting and unusual casting choice since Gunn is not necessarily the first actor that you'll think of when it comes to Maxwell Lord, but perhaps James has a different take in mind for the character which is why he decided to cast his brother for the key role.

Since we don't know yet how Maxwell Lord will play into the first chapter of the DCU, it's hard to speculate what kind of appearances he will make and what villainous intent will the character have.

With Lex Luthor also confirmed to have a presence in the DCU, we're getting ideas now regarding some of the villains that we will see in the franchise when it debuts and it's exciting to see which other characters will get cast soon as they're ramping up the production of Legacy in a few months.

The first DCU film Superman: Legacy is slated for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
