Joel Kinnaman made his appearances in the DCEU as Rick Flag in both versions of the Suicide Squad movies although the character met his demise in the James Gunn film during a contentious face-off with John Cena's Peacemaker.

Despite the character's death, some fans are still hoping that the actor will make another appearance in the franchise, especially in the upcoming DCU reboot under Gunn and Peter Safran.

So far, there are no plans for Kinnaman to return to the role in some capacity although it helps that Cena's Peacemaker is going to be retained in the DCU which could pave the way for them to bring him back for flashback sequences or some sort of resurrection.

Speaking with The Post Credit Podcast, Kinnaman discussed his character's death scene in The Suicide Squad and revealed that he is open to returning to the DCU for a new role.

"Yeah. I love that scene, though, it was such a good way to go. But, for sure, maybe I'll come back and play some nasty villain in a couple of years," he said.

While Gunn has not indicated that he plans to bring back Kinnaman in the new DCU to play Rick Flag again or a new role, it looks like the actor is very open to returning to the franchise if he ends up getting a call.

It is also unclear at the moment how the canon of the DCU will exactly work and whether the events of The Suicide Squad will be acknowledged so it's hard to tell if they can bring back Rick Flag as a living character or resurrect him in some sort of magical or multiverse explanation.

There is also a possibility that he'll play a new character instead which is something that Kinnaman is also open to. That scenario is possible since we've been hearing rumors that Jason Momoa might end up getting cast to play Lobo in the DCU, instead of continuing to play Aquaman.

If Kinnaman ends up returning to the DCU later on, fans will definitely be happy given how beloved his turn as Rick Flag was and he's also a talented actor himself.
