Pluto is one of the most anticipated anime of the fall season. It is based on Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki’s manga of the same name, which reimagines The Greatest Robot on Earth story arc from Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy. Netflix finally dropped Pluto’s eight-hour-long episodes, but will there be a Season 2 of Pluto?

Will There Be a Pluto Season 2?
As much as we want to see another season of Pluto, it’s highly unlikely that Pluto will get a second season, given how the anime covered all eight volumes of Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki’s manga series from start to finish.
This only means that Netflix and Studio M2 don’t have any source material left to adapt for a second season.
The anime adaptation has also been faithful to the source material, not leaving any important scenes from the Pluto manga.
At this point, it will be hard for fans to ask for a second season from the creators and producers.
The Pluto manga series ended on April 4, 2009, and to this day, there’s no sequel to it, making it more difficult to hope for a continuation of the story.
Besides, Pluto is a reimagination of The Greatest Robot on Earth story arc from Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy. It is a standalone story that doesn’t call for a sequel.
In the Astro Boy manga, The Greatest Robot on Earth story arc was followed by Mad Machine, which centers on Astro Boy stopping Dr. Foola’s mad machine from making all the robots go crazy.
On the contrary, Netflix, Studio M2, and the writers can opt to provide an original storyline for a second season that perhaps will tackle the aftermath of the events that transpired in the first season of Pluto.
Don’t get your hopes up for a second season, since it’s more likely not to happen.
Honestly, it’s more possible to have a reboot instead of a second season in the future.
When Will Pluto Season 2 Be Released?
If by chance Pluto gets a second season, it will most likely arrive a year or two from now, based on previous second season releases of new anime shows.
However, Pluto is a very special case since it has no source material left to adapt.
It’s also unlikely that we will get more content unless Netflix or the original creators come up with a brand-new storyline worthy of a second season adaptation.
Like always, expect to read more news and announcements about Pluto in the first weeks or months after the anime’s debut.
Most of the time, news of anime renewals happens shortly after the anime has wrapped up its episodes.
What to Expect From Pluto Season 2
We can only speculate what will happen in Pluto Season 2 since the original creators are long done with the story.
We will likely see the aftermath of the events that happened in Eden National Park. Perhaps the media will make a big deal of Atom’s feat once again, and the treatment of robots will change for the better.
It’s also possible that Roosevelt is still alive, as his death was not shown at the end of Pluto.
Brau 1589 is a very tricky character, so his not fulfilling the end of the agreement with Atom will make up a good storyline for a second season.
Roosevelt also asked Brau 1589 to collaborate before he acted for a kill after all.
In addition, the relationship between humans and robots is still not peaceful. The Anti-Robot Cult is still working behind the shadows, which poses a threat to Atom’s fellow men.
