Fall was easily one of the most exciting anime seasons of the year! With the return of several popular anime and the debut of new interesting shows, Fall 2023 had something for everyone! So, here are our picks for some of the best Fall 2023 anime!
Spy x Family Season 2: The Long-Awaited Return of 2022’s Biggest Hit
There’s no doubt that Spy x Family was one of, if not the biggest, anime hits of 2022, and for good reason. This is a rare show that truly has something for everyone.
It combines exciting action, loveable characters, compelling romance, a relaxing slice-of-life, a dash of espionage, and a large dose of comedy.
Finally, Spy x Family came back with a new season! What’s more, this new season covered the Cruise Adventure, an arc that many manga readers consider to be their favorite.
Without getting into spoiler territory, this arc finally put the spotlight on Yor Forger.
In the first season, Yor probably got the least amount of focus among the Forger family trio. So, it’s nice that Yor finally got an arc with her at the center of it.
On top of this, the second season also showcased several special moments such as Loid and Yor's date, as well as more hilarious Anya hijinks at Eden Academy.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was unlike any ordinary fantasy and adventure anime in the Fall 2023 lineup.
It doesn't recycle the generic storyline of characters going on a quest to defeat the Demon King and instead shows the lives of the characters after defeating the Demon King.
The story revolves around Frieren, an immortal Elven mage who outlived her former comrades after peace was restored in the fantasy world.
Don’t be mistaken, Frieren is not all about monsters, magic, and adventure; this fantasy anime is about discovering oneself, understanding others, how people see the world differently, the different aspects of human life, and many more.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End also features beautiful character designs, gorgeous backdrops, smooth animation courtesy of Madhouse, iconic voice actors, and amazing music that will stay in your head rent-free for years to come!
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3: Naofumi's New Adventure Was Full of Promise
The Rising of the Shield Hero is considered one of the best isekai anime of all time. It follows Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary boy who was summoned to the fantasy world of Melromarc to become one of its legendary heroes.
Naofumi becomes the Shield Hero, a role regarded as weak and useless. But later on, we see that he’s actually one of the strongest characters in the series, as his Legendary Shield gives him both offensive and defensive capabilities.
I enjoyed watching The Rising of the Shield Hero because of its compelling storyline, interesting characters, worldbuilding, and differences from other isekai anime.
While many were disappointed with the second season, The Rising of the Shield Hero’s third season was promising, especially because of the story and the thrilling adventures shown.
Despite the negative feedback on the second season, The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3 is an isekai anime worth watching.
The Apothecary Diaries: Bright Colors and Court Drama
Ever since the trailer took the world by storm, I've been excited for The Apothecary Diaries.
When a show features a character navigating complex and dangerous court politics, you can consider me immediately signed up.
In The Apothecary Diaries, fans were treated to a capable female lead in a historical setting. Fans especially loved seeing Maomao use her skills to improve her circumstances and solve mysteries!
As a fan of slice-of-life and historical titles such as Spice and Wolf, our expectations were met by The Apothecary Diaries!
Undead Unluck: Old-School Anime Action

Undead Unluck has one of the most interesting premises of any action anime this season, and enough experienced staff to make for a potential sleeper hit.
The series follows Fuuko, a young girl who brings misfortune to anyone she touches, a curse that resulted in the death of her parents and hundreds of others when she was younger.
Just as she's about to end her life, Fuuko is stopped by an immortal man searching for the best death possible.
Working together, the girl who kills everyone she touches and the immortal guy who wants to die form an unlikely team.
This quirky story was animated by David Production, the studio most famed for the JoJo series, while director Yuki Yase worked on a lot of popular series from the 2010s, including Fire Force and Madoka Magica (as episode director).
For fans of old-school, over-the-top battle anime, this was a very enjoyable watch!
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You – 5 Reallys and 100 Soulmates
Although I'm not a big fan of harem anime, I was intrigued by 100 Girlfriends and believed it could be one of the standout shows in the Fall 2023 lineup.
The story follows Rentarou, who is a perpetually unlucky romantic. He had already faced 100 rejections before high school. Now, before moving to high school, he wants to transform his love life.
Dejected and depressed, he visits a local love shrine that triggers an unexpected twist of fate.
Thanks to a cosmic mix-up, Rentarou is now destined to find not one, but 100 soulmates!
It is his mission to discover, cherish, and maintain his Love Hectogon to avoid calamity in the midst of his numerous loves.
The animation by Bibury Animation Studios (The Quintessential Quintuplets) is top-notch, and the girls are incredibly cute.
100 Girlfriends was an enjoyable addition to the Fall 23 lineup, even alongside the more prominent titles.
