Former Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist recently reacted to the news that Milly Alcock has been cast to play the DCU's Girl of Steel.

The actress played the DC heroine in Supergirl which aired on CW for six seasons and was part of the Arrowverse franchise. Her tenure in the role was well-received by fans who supported the series throughout its run.

A few weeks ago, we learned that Alcock was tapped to play the DCU iteration of Supergirl and follow in the footsteps of the actresses who previously donned the cape such as Benoist.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Benoist was asked about her reaction to Alcock's casting as the DCU's Supergirl and what she's excited to see on her version of the character.

"I think any and all takes on the character are valuable because of what she stands for. Supergirl as an entity is iconic for a reason and has been since the '50s," she said.

"I personally think that every iteration of her is valuable for young women to see, and hopefully [with] every take on her, someone will see themselves in it."

It is great to see Benoist throw her support for Alcock's casting as Supergirl since she had a first-hand experience of what it feels like to play the iconic DC heroine for many years.

Other actresses who have previously played Supergirl in the past are Helen Slater (who went on to play Kara Zor-El's adoptive mother in the CW series) and Sasha Calle, who co-starred in The Flash last year.

It is interesting to see what Alcock's take on the Girl of Steel will look like since it sounds like James Gunn and Peter Safran have specific visions on how their version of the hero will play into the DCU.

There have been rumors that the character is slated to have a cameo appearance in Gunn's Superman movie, but it was never confirmed.

So far, she is set to make her debut in the solo movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is currently in development.
