We learned recently that House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has been cast to play Supergirl in the new DCU franchise. She is set to portray the iconic heroine in multiple projects including the solo movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
So far, there are no details yet regarding how the character will be introduced in the franchise and what DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran have exactly in mind for their take on the Girl of Steel.
The character has already been depicted multiple times in live-action including just recently in last year's The Flash where Sasha Calle portrayed the DCEU version of the hero.
Now, a new report has shed some light on what Gunn is planning for the new version of the heroine in the DCU.

James Gunn is Aiming for a 'Less Earnest and More Edgy Version' of Supergirl in the DCU
A new report from Variety explained Gunn's plans for the DCU version of Supergirl and how it will veer away from the previous portrayals of the character.
The DC Studios co-chairman is aiming for a "less earnest and more edgy version" of the character when Alcock portrays her as he wants to move away from any of the past depictions, particularly in the CW series.
The report noted: "In the new iteration, Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge."
Gunn also addressed Alcock's casting in his post on Threads yesterday where he revealed that the actress was his first choice for the role way before the casting search commenced.
"Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics," he wrote in his post.
"I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes."
Based on the report and the brief comments made by Gunn, it looks like the character won't essentially be a symbol of hope and that could provide an interesting dynamic with her cousin Superman, who will likely have a more optimistic view.
It is exciting to see what Alcock's depiction of the character will exactly look like once we see her on-screen and how she will also work alongside David Corenswet.
