Who is the real mother of Leah in True Detective? One of the most pressing questions fans have is where Leah's mother may have gone in the series.

Since Leah Danvers is of native descent, her adoptive mother Detective Liz Danvers can't understand every aspect of her being. That said, what happened to Leah's real mother in True Detective Season 4?

Apart from the overarching mystery surrounding the disappearance of several Alaskan researchers, True Detective: Night Country has Leah Danvers' story to ponder.

When the first episode premiered, revealing that Detective Liz Danvers is not Leah's biological mother, fans began questioning where her mother's gone off to.

While we do know that her father died in a tragic accident, which left her in Liz Danvers' care, Leah takes this opportunity to figure herself out.

Aside from the typical teenage stuff, she is gradually engaging with the Inuk community to figure out their traditions and feel much closer to her roots.

Considering that Liz doesn't support this out of concern for her safety, Leah takes matters into her own hands by becoming an activist in the Inuk community.

Now, those who have been watching the series are well aware that the closed murder case victim Annie K seems convenient to the day that Liz got Leah. Here's why fans think Annie K may be related to Leah.

Annie K was speculated to be Leah's mother for two reasons: their close resemblance and the day the former disappeared.

Fans have gone on Reddit and formulated a couple of theories that connect Annie K's disappearance to Leah's birthday.

Leah is estimated to be aged around 16-17 years old and keep in mind that the show's timeline is six years after Annie K's murder case.

According to fans, Annie K could have easily been a teenage mom. While others find this theory a bit far-fetched, one fan said that Annie K was once described as "a woman sleeping with half of Ennis."

While Annie didn't seem to be the kind of woman who would leave her baby to fend for herself, there's a possibility that Annie "relocated to Anchorage to hide her teen pregnancy".

Upon her relocation, she could have given her baby to the father once she returned to Ennis.

Leah may not feel entirely understood by Liz Danvers' parenting, but considering that she shares the activist quality with Annie K, the deputy chief finds it all the more concerning.

Not to mention, they both come from the same Inuk community and look closely alike, as fans observed.

However, nothing has been confirmed yet as of writing. We'll have to wait once True Detective releases more episodes.
