The concept of the undead being brought back to life is nothing new. Game of Thrones fans had their own term for the undead, which is "white walkers."

For those who don't know, the "white walkers" are the undead in the world of Westeros. They normally come from the North, where the snow could "raise them back to life."

The white walkers were an "ancient race" who were thousands of years old. They are the most feared creatures in Westeros.

The first time they were sighted was during the longest winter in history called the "Long Night." The white walkers mindlessly killed everyone in their path and took the undead as a part of their growing army.

The short answer is no. There are no white walkers in True Detective, but it's a lot more complicated than that.

Here's why fans are seemingly convinced that the undead in True Detective: Night Country is none other than white walkers.

Both Game of Thrones and True Detective Season 4 exhibit a couple of similarities with the "white walkers" theory.

Aside from the "corpsicles" coming back alive after being thawed from the snow (like the white walkers did), there's the mysterious spiral symbol existing in their investigation.

Game of Thrones introduced the existence of white walkers with a spiral symbol formed from their bodies, while True Detective had a separate scene to show the spiral symbol. The resemblance is uncanny, though.

Considering that both George R.R. Martin's and True Detective: Night Country series are under HBO, fans seem convinced that the "white walkers" are making a comeback in the crime series:

As one fan theorized, "There's no f***ing way that guy [Lund] would still be alive, unless he was a zombie or white walker."

The fan called the show "ridiculous" for thinking that it's natural to ask a victim for a statement after being recently thawed out.

Some fans have even gone so far as to name the so-called "corpsicles" as "white walker-esque" in the series.

As of writing, the creators of True Detective have yet to confirm whether they took inspiration from Game of Thrones or not.

It is worth mentioning though that it's normal for a series to wittingly reference a similar occurrence from another show that's related to their situation.

So, in this sense, calling the "corpsicles" the "white walkers" would resonate more easily with fans, especially those who know the full story from HBO's Game of Thrones.
