While the anime seems to be following the manga’s plot faithfully, it does add plenty of new original scenes that fans believe enhance the overall story.

As with the manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1 begins with Mei Mei and Utahime as they embark on a mission. But because they take longer than expected, Gojo, Geto, and Shoko are sent to help them out.

This initial part of the arc is only a couple of pages long, but the anime went above and beyond as it expanded the scene, making it over ten minutes long.

Instead of padding the scene though, the anime’s version of it was more striking visually, not to mention that the foe they were facing became more fleshed out.

Episode 1’s extended Utahime and Mei Mei intro was well received among fans, with many praising the episode for how well it explained the Cursed Spirit’s ability.

In the manga, Mei Mei’s explanation happened in just one panel. But in the anime, the enemy’s power was explained more clearly.

Given this, many fans are excited to see how the anime will explain the powers that will be shown during the Shibuya Incident arc.

This wasn’t the only addition in the episode though. For instance, there’s the anime-original scene where Gojo and Geto talk while playing basketball.

Aside from being a nice treat for Gojo and Geto fans, many fans loved it as it gives more insight into the duo’s relationship and personalities.

That’s not all though. The episode also adds a bunch of funny scenes featuring Gojo and Geto animated in a chibi style.

Finally, Toji Fushiguro was shown earlier than expected, giving viewers a taste of what to expect from this major character.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will continue with Episode 2, which will be streamed on Crunchyroll next week in the US and other regions.
