What Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Be About?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will initially touch upon topics explored in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, namely Satoru Gojo's time in Tokyo Jujutsu High alongside Suguru Geto.

This prequel arc is known in the manga as the Hidden Inventory arc.

We expect the first cour of the second season to elaborate on the two characters' shared past and how they parted ways.

The latest Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 trailer reinforces this:

Based on the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, we would also expect later Season 2 episodes to adapt the infamous Shibuya Incident arc.

We haven't seen many hints of that in current trailers, but we expect the 24-episode second season to air until early 2024, leaving plenty of time for that.

The Shibuya Incident is the longest arc of the manga, and it follows the team of sorcerers, led by Yuji, as they fight a heavily-orchestrated effort by curses and other powerful forces to take down those who oppose them.

This story arc features a lot of action-packed battles with deadly ramifications for Yuji and his allies.

There are also a few major losses that occur in this dark story arc.

Expect Season 2 to feature the third Cursed Womb triplet, Choso, allying himself with the villains Mahito and Geto.

There’s also the minor matter of a mole in Jujutsu High, with teacher Utahime very much on the hunt for the duplicitous sorcerer.

If this information remains correct, here are the expected release times in different time zones:

  • Central Time: 9:56 AM (July 6, 2023)

How Many Chapters Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Adapt?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 was able to adapt the first 64 chapters of Gege Akutami's manga series in 24 episodes -- that's nearly three chapters per episode on average.

Therefore, it's safe to estimate that Season 2 will adapt a similar number of chapters.

A good stopping point for the story should also be considered.

The first season adapted the first 64 chapters because the 64th chapter was the end of the Death Painting arc, which consisted of nine chapters.

The next arc is about Gojo's past with Suguru Geto. This will cover a lot of events regarding Megumi and his father too.

It's worth noting that this arc is pretty short, running only from Chapters 65 to 79.

However, the following arc, the Shibuya Incident arc, is 57 chapters long, so the anime would need to adapt a total of 71 chapters to cover both arcs.

Who Are the Cast and Characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will likely have most of the same cast as the first, so that means Junya Enoki (Nasa Yuzaki from Tonikaku Kawaii) will return to provide the voice for the protagonist, Yuji.

Yuma Uchida (Kyo from Fruits Basket) will also return to voice Megumi, the stoic sorcerer who must team up with Yuji and Nobara (Asami Seto, also the voice of Raphtalia from The Rising of the Shield Hero).

Yuichi Nakamura (Kintoki Sakata from Gintama) will also return to voice Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu High, where the trio of fighters trains.

While Takahiro Sakurai (Arataka Reigen from Mob Psycho 100) is set to return as Suguru Geto this season, it will likely be his last performance in that role since his contract has reportedly been terminated.

More voice actors will likely join Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 as new characters are introduced.

Meanwhile, some cool character designs have been shared through the show's official Twitter account:

Since the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will be adapting the young Gojo era, some characters have gotten makeovers for their younger versions.

The second season will be directed by Shota Goshozono who also worked on Chainsaw Man's storyboard.

We will update you with the latest casting details once more information becomes available.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will likely be available to stream on platforms that have the first season available now, so expect Crunchyroll and HBO Max to release the new episodes after they air in Japan.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently not available to stream on Netflix, so it's unlikely that Season 2 will arrive on Netflix because HBO Max holds the streaming rights for the popular anime series.

MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka and writer Hiroshi Seko responded to a question about what fans can expect from Season 2, and this is what Seko had to say:

There's not much we can tell you right now. We are creating something based off of the original manga by Akutami-sensei and, for readers, they know what's already coming up ahead.

Otsuka added:

Please look forward to it. I can't really say anything, but the staff is putting their heart and soul into something that the fans are gonna love. They know that's what the fans are expecting.
They want to meet those expectations as much as possible for the fans that enjoy the series and love it.

The prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, is now also available, and we expect many exciting updates as we approach Summer 2023!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Trailer

A preview trailer of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is now available. In it, we get a glimpse of Gojo's school days.

We don't see Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and the rest of the young cast, which causes some fans to wonder if the entirety of the season will be a prequel.

However, we don't believe that this will be the case.

A more likely explanation is that the following arc is kept under lock and key to avoid any spoilers and make sure it's as impactful as possible when it comes out.

Another action-packed trailer with Gojo and Geto has also been released.

As we expect two cours for Season 2, more content about Yuji and his friends in Jujutsu High might be released later in the summer.

With less than a month to go, make sure to return here frequently for the latest Jujutsu Kaisen updates!
