What Is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 All About?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 initially touches upon topics explored in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, namely Satoru Gojo's time in Tokyo Jujutsu High alongside Suguru Geto.

This prequel arc is known in the manga as the Hidden Inventory arc. The first cour of the second season elaborates on the two characters' shared past and how they parted ways.

Season 2 will also adapt the infamous Shibuya Incident arc. While we haven't seen many hints of that in initial trailers, it has been confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will indeed cover the Shibuya Incident arc.

The official website of the anime has revealed that the second season's schedule is as follows:

  • July 6 to August 3: Hidden Inventory Arc
  • August 10: Recap of the Hidden Inventory Arc and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie
  • August 17: Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Recap
  • August 24: Week-long break
  • August 31: Start of the Shibuya Incident Arc

The Shibuya Incident is the longest arc of the manga, and it follows the team of sorcerers, led by Yuji, as they fight a heavily orchestrated effort by curses and other powerful forces to take down those who oppose them.

This story arc features a lot of action-packed battles with deadly ramifications for Yuji and his allies. There are also a few major losses that occur in this dark story arc, and we now have a trailer for it:

Based on the schedule above, we expect the Shibuya Incident arc to take 18 episodes.

Expect Season 2 to feature the third Cursed Womb triplet, Choso, allying himself with the villains Mahito and Geto.

There’s also the minor matter of a mole in Jujutsu High, with teacher Utahime very much on the hunt for the duplicitous sorcerer.

How Many Chapters Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Adapt?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 was able to adapt the first 64 chapters of Gege Akutami's manga series in 24 episodes — that's nearly three chapters per episode on average.

Therefore, it's safe to estimate that Season 2 will adapt a similar number of chapters. A good stopping point for the story should also be considered.

The first season adapted the first 64 chapters because the 64th chapter was the end of the Death Painting arc, which consisted of nine chapters.

The first Season 2 arc is about Gojo's past with Geto. The events regarding Megumi and his father are also covered.

It's worth noting that this arc is pretty short, running only from Chapters 65 to 79.

However, the following arc, the Shibuya Incident arc, is 57 chapters long, so the anime would need to adapt a total of 71 chapters to cover both arcs.

Given the delay of the Shibuya arc and the lack of information until recently, some fans might wonder if the anime will continue into Fall 2023 or take another break.

Thankfully, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will continue on as a double cour with no further break. This means it will adapt the Shibuya arc in its entirety.

Who Are the Cast and Characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will likely have most of the same cast as the first, so that means Junya Enoki (Nasa Yuzaki from Tonikaku Kawaii) returns to provide the voice for the protagonist, Yuji.

Yuma Uchida (Kyo from Fruits Basket) is also back to voice Megumi, the stoic sorcerer who must team up with Yuji and Nobara (Asami Seto, also the voice of Raphtalia from The Rising of the Shield Hero).

Yuichi Nakamura (Kintoki Sakata from Gintama) also returns to voice Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu High, where the trio of fighters trains.

While Takahiro Sakurai (Arataka Reigen from Mob Psycho 100) came back as Suguru Geto this season, it will likely be his last performance in that role since his contract has reportedly been terminated.

Since the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 adapts the young Gojo era, some characters got makeovers for their younger versions.

We particularly liked young Geto's look, and Gojo looked great as always.

The second season is directed by Shouta Goshozono who also worked on Chainsaw Man's storyboard and directed its eighth episode.

While Goshozono's filmography before taking over Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 was rather limited, his fans are already talking about Gosso cinema enthusiastically, as he made an already beloved anime even more exciting and fresh!

So far, we're loving the direction, which is both emotional and action-focused without neglecting small details.

The first season was directed by Seong-Hu Park, who left the project, possibly to focus on the upcoming Ninja Kamui by studio E&H Production.

In terms of new appearances, the Shibuya arc's narrator is voiced by veteran voice actor Yoshiko Sakakibara (Integra Hellsing from Hellsing).

Way before the series finally started airing, MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka and writer Hiroshi Seko responded to a question about what fans can expect from Season 2, and this is what Seko had to say:

There's not much we can tell you right now. We are creating something based off of the original manga by Akutami-sensei and, for readers, they know what's already coming up ahead.

Otsuka added:

Please look forward to it. I can't really say anything, but the staff is putting their heart and soul into something that the fans are gonna love. They know that's what the fans are expecting.
They want to meet those expectations as much as possible for the fans that enjoy the series and love it.

The prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, is now also available.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Trailer

A preview trailer of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is now available. In it, we get a glimpse of Gojo's school days.

We don't see Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and the rest of the young cast, which caused some fans to wonder if the entirety of the season will be a prequel.

However, it has now been confirmed multiple times that this won't be the case.

The following arc is simply kept under lock and key to avoid any spoilers and make sure it's as impactful as possible when it comes out.

Another action-packed trailer with Gojo and Geto has also been released.
