The Shibuya Incident: A Jujutsu Kaisen Tragedy
The Shibuya Incident arc is infamous amongst Jujutsu Kaisen manga fans, but those who only follow the anime might not be sure what it entails.
In short, the Shibuya Incident refers to one of the most tragic arcs of the manga, whereby Kenjaku plans and oversees a jujutsu terrorist attack in Shibuya.
Without spoiling much, we can say that Mahito and Pseudo-Geto (as he's referred to at the time) use the alliance they have achieved between curse users and curse spirits to try and seal Satoru Gojo.
The arc involves several battles and stages. It concludes with some characters being dead or incapacitated, breaking fans' hearts.
For many readers, this was when they figured out that things were really getting dark in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Cover the Shibuya Incident Arc?
Yes, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will cover the Shibuya Incident and they now have a trailer to show for it.
All early trailers and promotional materials focused on Gojo's young years in Jujutsu High, but the Shibuya Incident will also feature in the second season.
The initial trailers led some fans to worry about whether Yuji Itadori will even be in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.
Jujutsu Kaisen is ultimately about the young cast, with Gojo being a supporting character.
The good news is that we now have a confirmation about Season 2's course of action!
In August 2023, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Jujutsu Kaisen celebrated the start of the Shibuya Incident arc with a poster:
How Much Is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Likely to Cover?
The official Jujutsu Kaisen website confirms that Season 2 will cover the Hidden Inventory arc as well as the Shibuya Incident — the latter will be adapted starting from August 31, 2023.
Here's the schedule they've shared:
- July 6 to August 3: Hidden Inventory Arc
- August 10: Recap of the Hidden Inventory Arc and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie
- August 17: Recap of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1
- August 24: Week-long break
- August 31: Start of the Shibuya Incident Arc
Prior to this official announcement, Jujutsu Kaisen's voice actors reportedly confirmed their involvement in this new, exciting, and scary arc.
Earlier in the year, a Twitter account with updates about the shounen anime shared a photo of the three main voice actors with a possible statement from Junya Enoki, Yuji Itadori's voice actor:
You may have noticed while watching the PV, but all of the staff are working hard. It won’t just be the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs, but also the Shibuya Incident arc will be covered.
After all, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has already been delayed quite a bit, so it would feel like a waste if MAPPA didn't include content that moves the story forward.
Moreover, the fact that the voice actors assembled in a photo is an early indication that they indeed worked on Season 2, and we can't wait to see the outcome!
