For the past few months, we've been hearing a lot of casting news for the upcoming DCU film Superman: Legacy as it is set to begin production early next year under the helm of James Gunn.

There have been rumors for a while now that Gunn's frequent collaborator Michael Rooker is playing General Sam Lane in Superman: Legacy although that was never confirmed throughout the casting announcements that were made.

Given that Rooker has consistently appeared in various Gunn projects ever since they started working together earlier in the director's career, it wouldn't be surprising if we see him show up in the film in some capacity.

However, it looks like that might not be the case as the director has denied his rumored involvement.

A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads about the rumors surrounding Rooker's rumored casting as Sam Lane in Superman: Legacy.

The DC Studios co-chairman straight up denied the rumor in his response. "It is not," he simply answered.

This easily shot down the rumor that we've been hearing for the past couple of months and we can no longer expect an appearance from the Guardians of the Galaxy actor as Lois Lane's father in the DCU film.

However, there is still a chance that Rooker could appear for a cameo appearance or in a different role that is not General Lane so this shouldn't put down the possibility of him showing up in some way.

It is also worth noting that Rooker played Savant in The Suicide Squad so he already has a footing in the DC Universe. Given that the character died in that film, his next DC appearance has to be a new character if Gunn decides to include him.

For now, let's wait and see how it all unfolds since there are still a few months left before filming begins so a lot can still happen between now and then.

If we can make a guess right now, a Rooker appearance is likely given his long-standing professional relationship with Gunn. Whether he will show up as an extra or a supporting role, fans will definitely appreciate it.

Superman: Legacy is slated for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
