From the initially promised spinoff to becoming a reboot, who would’ve thought we’d live to see the day Warner Bros. developing a new Harry Potter reboot series with a new set of actors in line? The series is reported to cover all seven books of JK Rowling’s best-selling series, each book dedicated at least one season each. While Potterheads are outwardly denying the reboot from happening, the author is on board with the plan.
According to insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, Warner Bros. is not only developing a seven-season Harry Potter series with HBO, but is also planning on developing Harry Potter and The Cursed Child stage play as the ninth movie of the franchise.
Despite original stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) declining the offer to return to the franchise, the controversial series author is on board with the developing project. Warner Bros. previously attempted to buy Rowling out of the franchise, only to eventually come to the conclusion they were “stuck with her.”
Considering that Radcliffe and Watson remain skeptical to return due to opposing views with Rowling on supporting the LGBTQ+ community, specifically Transpeople, it is now clearer than ever that the original Harry and Hermione are less likely to reprise their roles.

Amid this, Sneider indicated that there was “talk of pitches” for different versions for Harry Potter, being set in America and even in Paris, only to have those ideas “shot down” by Rowling, seeing as the author declares, “Harry Potter is a British property and should stay true to its roots.”
Harry Potter fans remain skeptical and disdained with disgust as the reboot series reports continue to flourish, seeing as the original films were already perfect as they are, with the great actors who originally portrayed the characters.
In fact, the news caused a petty little fandom war between Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans who are also expecting a reboot series under Disney Plus.
HBO’s Harry Potter series has yet to be officially confirmed, nor does it have its release date set.
