With the upcoming DCU reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran, some fans have been wondering about its tie-ins with the other DC universes. So far, we know that a couple of characters from the DCEU are expected to segue into the new franchise.

Matt Reeves' The Batman universe was delegated as part of the DC Elseworlds as it is set in a separate universe and won't have any connections to the DCU.

Following the success of the first film in early 2022, The Batman universe was since expanded with an upcoming sequel, a spinoff series that will focus on Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobblepot, and an untitled series set in Arkham Asylum. Reeves is shepherding all the projects.

Now, we have a new update on one of The Batman spinoff projects that is in the works as it looks like it is being integrated into the DCU.

A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads whether Reeves is working on another project set in The Batman universe aside from the projects that were already announced.

The DC Studios co-chairman revealed that Reeves' Arkham Asylum series is now being produced as part of the DCU.

"Right now Matt is producing Arkham as a DCU series, so there’s just the two for now," he wrote.

When another fan asked Gunn to clarify whether the Arkham Asylum series is going to be set in the DCU, he confirmed that Reeves is now working on projects for both The Batman universe and the DCU.

"Yes. We love Matt as a director and producer so he’ll be producing stories both within his The Batman universe and within the DCU," Gunn responded.

This is surprising news for fans since there have been previous assumptions that the Arkham project is also set in The Batman universe. As it turns out, that wasn't the case as Reeves is now also involved in the DCU starting with the series.

There are no details yet regarding the Arkham project, but at the very least, we know now that it won't have any connection to The Batman and it will feature characters that we may or may not meet down the line in the earlier DCU projects.
