The latest chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga continue to fascinate readers with the backstory of not only Bartholomew Kuma but also Jewelry Bonney. A huge part of their story involves Conney of the Sorbet Kingdom, where Kuma and Bonney used to live in the past. So, is Bonney related to Conney in One Piece?

Who Is Conney in One Piece?
Conney first appeared in One Piece Chapter 1099, Pacifist, amid the narrative about Bartholomew Kuma’s back story. She is said to be the Queen Dowager of Sorbet Kingdom, who also gave birth to the king named Bulldog.
She was one of the many elderly citizens in the Sorbet Kingdom who cared not only for the now-deceased Ginny but also for her child, Jewelry Bonney.
At a time when King Bekori usurped the reign from Bulldog, Conney’s position as Queen Dowager was also removed from her.
It was only after Kuma overthrew King Bekori for the second time that Conney managed to reclaim her position as Queen Dowager of Sorbet Kingdom, as did Bulldog, who returned to the throne.
How Important Is Conney in Bonney’s Story?
While Bonney undergoes treatment and rehabilitation at Sorbet Kingdom, Conney supports and takes care of her on behalf of Bartholomew Kuma.
After all, Kuma left Bonney to keep the end of his bargain with the World Government, which allowed Dr. Vegapunk to treat Bonney’s Sapphire Scales Disease.
As Kuma roamed the seas as the newest member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Conney took it upon herself to look out for Bonney.
Ever since Bonney was young, Conney was there, along with some of Kuma’s trusted friends. Kuma trusted Conney enough to ask her to take care of Bonney, knowing how she took care of Bulldog in the past.
She was also one of the many who were concerned with Bonney’s well-being, especially after she contracted the same deadly disease as Ginny.
In the latest chapter of One Piece, spoilers reveal that Conney helped Bonney escape from Sorbet Kingdom.
Her connection and intel were proven useful after they discovered that Bonney’s acting nurse, Alpha, is actually a World Government agent in disguise.
Not only did Conney pretend to be Bonney during the escape, but she also asked Bonney to hide her devil fruit powers against Alpha’s team to keep her protected.
So, Is Bonney Related to Conney in One Piece?
Despite the rhyming in their names, Bonney is not related to Conney in One Piece. They are not blood relatives at all, despite their striking resemblance whenever Bonney ages herself.
In fact, a lot of citizens in Sorbet Kingdom even mistake Conney for Bonney, much to Kuma’s surprise.
There are a lot of theories that explain why older Bonney resembles Conney. One of which points out that when Bonney discovered her ability to manipulate her age, she modeled her older self on Conney.
If we can recall, Kuma and Ginny wound up in the Sorbet Kingdom after they escaped from God Valley.
They decided to start life anew on the island while Ginny took time to find her purpose in life. Ginny asked Kuma to marry her, but the latter refused due to his way of life.
Soon after, fate intervenes, and Ginny ends up marrying a Celestial Dragon, who eventually throws her like trash after she contracts the Sapphire Scales disease.
She returned to the Sorbet Kingdom while pregnant with Bonney. That’s when Kuma appears to promise the deceased Ginny that he will raise Bonney at all costs.
Hence, there's no way that Bonney is related to Conney by blood in One Piece unless Eiichiro Oda cooks something that will connect the two.
