HBO Max To Relaunch With New Brand Name Soon

HBO Max is set to relaunch its brand name with a couple new features for the service’s rebranding.

As per IGN, Warner Bros. Discovery is relaunching HBO Max under the name Max, in which the rebranded platform will also be offering Discovery+ and HBO Max content. ‘Max’ will reportedly make its debut sometime in May or June, and while it will still cost $16 a month (as of January this year), the revamped service will include several price tiers.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time HBO Max considered getting a name change, seeing as it was reported back in December 2022 that the streaming service was contemplating the rebranding along with merging the content under Warner Bros. Discovery.

While specific details are still being kept under wraps, the rebranded service will continue to stream HBO Max titles such as House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, and will soon also introduce Discovery+ series such as Fixer Upper and Property Brothers.

Amid this rebranding report, HBO Max has had quite a run earlier this year. Apart from its garnered success from House of the Dragon Season 1, and now developing Season 2 as well as greenlighting a Season 3, The Last of Us Season 1 took the mantle this 2023.

The Last of Us was one of those video game series that broke the running ‘curse’ in which such adaptations are commonly bound to fail, given its nature to change its story from the original source material. In this case, however, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were able to push through and immediately nabbed The Last of Us Season 2 renewal ahead of its first season’s finale.

House of the Dragon, on the other hand, is as impressive, considering this is the prequel show of George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones, featuring the House of Targaryens. In fact, HBO is considering making more spinoff shows, this time, venturing off with Aegon the Conqueror on claiming Westeros for his own.

The Last of Us Season 2 and House of the Dragon Season 2 have no confirmed release date yet, but both are expected to air sometime in 2024.
